Comparing the consumption of the EV3 to the Cupra is like comparing a Merc A-Class with a GLA. It’s a different class of car and has an inherently higher consumption. This only showed that the Kia drivetrain is vastly more efficient. The charging comparison is nonsensical without preconditioning.

@KrisRifa given you are in great cold climate it is nice to highlight if there is heat pump and how it affects charging and consumption alike. This is a huge contention point for people. The way you do the test, you assume the linear response of the battery indicator. That we know is not a fact. Perhaps like petrol engines you need to charge 100%. Then you drive. Then you charge to 100%. Then you base calculations on the electricity you paid. If you want to speculate about usable battery, I gather you need to drive to complete stop. What you did is just your linear maths skills against a very complex curve of 4th or 5th degree that the manufacturers.put in the vehicle, i.e., your spreadsheet, is awfully wrong.

I have tested more than 100 EVs the past four years in both in my Range Test and Long Trip Test. I am one of few people in the world who actually does real tests in the real world of EVs this way. So no, my spreadsheet is not wrong, it is some of the most accurate date you'll find anywhere on the internet. In Finland there was recently a FLTP.fi 1000km challenge on the Thursday 30.1.2025 that consisted of 46 different EVs. The EV3 beat both Volvo EX30 Twin and SR RWD cars by quite a marging. Out of 46 cars EV3 ranked 4th in the whole fleet. EX30 TM and SR ranking 34th with a split with Model Y (-22 Long range) VW ID3 Pro (58kWh) spent a whopping 913 minutes on the whole trip. 205 minutes of that was spending charging. Kia 81kWh took 741minutes total to do the whole 1000km (1h 18minutes of charging) Both Volvo EX30 Long Range Single Motor LR and Twin Motor LR took 841 minutes and spent alot more time on charging (Twin motor 2h 20 minutes in total, Single Motor 1h 58 minutes) What is insanely impressive the EV3 did almost a full 394km on the 1st 96% battery used (including preconditioning) and could of done the 1000km trip with just 2 charges. (It was more optimal for total time to do 3 charges) Weather on the road was between some +1 to -10 centigrade including snowy, wet and slushy roads. Full FLTP 1000km Winter 2025 database can be found here: fltp.fi/dl/27b7a0 In the top 15. 7 out of them were Korean E-GMP cars including 2x Ioniq6, EV6 EV6 GT, EV6 FL, EV3 and EV9 Only European manufactured cars in the top 15 were brand new ID7 ranging 15th and Audi e-Tron GT ranking 6th. This is alarming. Not a single EV driver reported a single minute of waiting to a charger on the whole trip. So also the charging infrastructure held well.

This consumption at only 120km/h is a disaster. The cost is approximately equivalent of 8,5 litres of fuel, and at this speed it’s just bad. Electric cars with current battery and charging technology are definitely a bad option, compared to modern hybrid or diesel. If it’s mostly used for so called “daily commute” and you happen to have a charger at home/work, then it might be fine, but generally not good choice for the needs of a normal family. Imagine going on a 1000km road trip in winter, and having to plan route around fast chargers, pray that they’ll work properly, and then stop every 1,5-2 hours to charge.
@KrisRifa
@KrisRifa 9 күн бұрын
Sorry this is not correct. Kia EV3 does 335km with 78kWh of energy, which at Ionity (with Passport Power cost 135NOK/month) cost 234NOK (3NOK/kW). Even included that monthly fee the price is 370NOK (4,74NOK/kWh). So after only one charging session, it has paid for itself. Average petrol prices in Norway in 2024 was 20,26NOK/L. For 234NOK you are getting 11,55L. To cover 335km you would have to have a consumption of 3,48L/100km. So 3,48L/100km going 120KPH in -4c in a car the size of a Skoda Karoq with 204HP is a disaster is it? Please show me footage or any evidence that you'd be able to even get 7L/100KM at these speeds and temperatures with a car this size. Even when included the one monthly fee of 136NOK it works out to 5,45L/100km. With the EV3 you'd have to stop every 3 hours to charge for around 30mins, in winter. If you have kids and family, stopping every 2-3 hours is pretty normal. So that 1000km road trip is not a problem. The car will plan the charges for you, you don't even have to think about it. Sorry mate, but you are just clueless and full of "what ifs" and hypotheticals that just aren't a real concern. EV sales in Norway are at around 97%, with almost 50% of all cars on the road being fully electric. Doesn't seem to be a problem here. Charges are super reliable here in Norway, where we have harsh and cold winters 3-4 months a year.
@zskeledzic
@zskeledzic 9 күн бұрын
@ it's great that electricity in Norway is that cheap. Sorry, but in Germany you aren't going to fast charge at 0.26€/kWh anywhere. Not even slow charge at home... Sorry, but for Germany and many other countries, electric cars just wouldn't be smart purchase. I was looking into buying Kia EV3 recently, but no matter how hard I tried to make it make sense, it just doesn't. In the end I decided to go with hybrid Toyota Corolla estate with 2.0l 196hp engine. Price was lower, it's using less than 5.5l/100km in the winter at German highway speeds, meaning 50% time over 130km/h. On a 1200km trip, I stopped twice for fuel and once because there was a nice place to see along the road and have some rest. With electric car I would have to stop at least 5 times, if I keep the speed under 120km/h, which is ridiculously slow on a German highway and could actually be more dangerous than driving faster. When you add high initial price and poor resale value, there was just no arguments to go for EV.

@@zskeledzic Ionity in Germany is 0,39€/kWh, so still cheap. Here are the prices for your comparison. 1,72€/L (average price of petrol in Germany in January 2025) x 5,5L/100 = 9,46€/100km 0,39€/kWh (w/Ionity Passport in Germany) x22,6kWh/100km = 8,81€/100km "5.5l/100km in the winter at German highway speeds" Sorry, you are not managing 5,5L/100km doing 130kph, let alone 120kph as an average speed for hours in you Toyota Corolla Hybrid in -4c temperatures. Every time we do a range test we hear these claims, but not one video, not one photo, not one person can confirm these consumption figures. @ if you pay ionity 12 EUR/month subscription, then you’ll pay 0,39 but only on ionity chargers. So, now you need to limit yourself on those chargers when planning a long trip? And even in that best case scenario you save 65 cents on 100 km 😂 you may or may not believe it, but my first road trip experience with Toyota hybrid (not plugin), purchased just before new year… 1200km most of the trip was highway driving, big part on German highways at over 130km/h and in cold weather… consumption for entire trip was 5,5l/100km. Since then with this car I’ve driven total a little less than 4000km, and fuel economy is 5,4l/100km overall. There is still no electric car capable of matching that and matching the practicality. Maybe in the future it will be possible, with some revolutionary batteries and charging technology… I actually hope for that.

@@zskeledzic yes "limit" yourself to the largest charing provider in Europe with "only" 4370 chargers. "And even in that best case scenario you save 65 cents on 100 km" your original argument was "8,5 litres of fuel, and at this speed it’s just bad". So now we've gone from "that's bad" to "well, it's only 65cent/100km cheaper". Yes, that was the whole point, even using you unverified numbers the EV still wins. Thats not even taking into account what you save on maintenance over the life of the vehicle and other incentives many other countries offer. "you may or may not believe it, but my first road trip experience with Toyota hybrid (not plugin), purchased just before new year… 1200km most of the trip was highway driving, big part on German highways at over 130km/h and in cold weather… consumption for entire trip was 5,5l/100km" No I don't, because nobody is able to prove these claims. nobody. I get these type of comments on every Range Video I have make- But nobody is ever able to confirm these claims. So until they are proven, they are false. Especially because most of these commenters (you included) don't understand the difference between a controlled test and a road trip somebody went on. Unless you have done controlled tests (which you haven't). you anecdote is useless and is just spreading misinformation. Which it a violation of commenting guidelines. "I’ve driven total a little less than 4000km, and fuel economy is 5,4l/100km overall" And what's you average speed over those 4000km? Because I can bet you 1000Euro it isn't 111kph is it? You understand that the higher the speed, the higher the consumption right? Air resistance alone increase squared when you double the speed. I bet your average speed over those 4000km (please check you trip computer and post a photo) is likely around 40-50kph. And from testing I have here on the channel, an EV at that speed can easily manage 120% of its WLTP range. So the Kia would manage more than 700km, and your Toyota Corolla Hybrid with its 40L fuel tank will manage about the same. With those numbers, the Kia will cost half the price to operate compared to your Toyota. So no, there is no need for a revolution expect for in your mind. 97% of new cars sold in Norway are BEVs. If we can do it, then you can too. It's time to stop with the excuses.
