You did not mention Electric motor size and torque produced both electric only and with engine. No mention of battery storage capacity. Please, this is the basics when informing the car buying public.

42mpg ? Are you driving up trees ? I'm getting 58-62mpg (54 in freezing conditions) driving at 75mph with everything turned on and I'm not shy of the overtaking lane. Its fun to drive, very relaxing, far more comfortable than equivalent Merc, Audi, BMW etc (its a nicer ride than my mate's Jag !!), good handling. EV to petrol is almost unnoticeable. The brand addicts are welcome to their small door, no knee room, bucket seats, I'll be the smuggy looking down on you, lol

I believe the niro is 139 bhp also the battery only ever shows that it is half charged for some reason. I did test drive a kia niro 3 and thought it was a great car except for the handbrake.

Subaru tried to do this with the Crosstrek and failed miserably. 1 extra regular 12v battery and the fuel savings was a joke.

51 british mpg (as he said he was getting on test) is 5.5l per 100km. I think real world, that is pretty good. That's better than I ever got in my Fiesta 1.6 petrol manual (5.9-6.5) usually and it's a bigger car. Don't like dual clutch gearboxes though.

What technically makes a car a crossover today? Is it height? Ground clearance? Off-road ability? The Mercedes GLA-Class looks nothing more than a lifted A-Class, the BMW X1 a lifted 1-Series, the same with the Audi Q3, just a lifted A3. You don't get more room, only worse driving dynamics. I did not pay too much attention to the resemblance to the Kia Sportage, rather thinking this is KIA's version of the Hyundai IONIQ. It seems to be a good idea on behalf of Hyundai-KIA as consumers have their choice of either a "crossover" or a Mondeo style hatchback-lift back. Also the Hyudai IONIQ is will be available as full electric as well as a plug-in hybrid.

He got CVTs backward. When accelerating (which by definition an increase in speed) the engine drones at pretty much constant rpms as the CVT does it thing.

No he doesnt the cvt makes the engine go up to 3 to 4000 rpm from the get go and keeps it there. Almost all the time. Thats noisy.

Great review, well balanced and everything of relevance seems to have been covered, except for just one point. What is it with the foot operated "handbrake"? This would really put me off the car if there was no alternative offered like a conventional handbrake, or even an electrically operated pull and push button, that type. You see I'm so used to only two pedals in my automatic car and a third pedal brake might cause a degree of potentially dangerous confusion among a certain demographic of drivers. Still, a big thumbs up for the warts and all review, very helpful indeed. Why this type of brake though, in all seriousness, could you enlighten me?

Marcus Lee In my opinion, ride comfort is way more important than looks or cornering ability...you pay a lot more for low profile tyres and in my previous Ford Focus XR5 only got 20,000 klms out of the one set!

In the UK they were never seen as raised hatchbacks. Merc GLA, new Audi Q2 or the original BMW X1 are definitely raised hatchbacks, massive difference between them and Sportage and Qashqai.

usually like kia's but this left me underwhelmed, just looks like an attempt to cash in on the eco trend without any real advantage of owning one, a modern diesel SUV is at least as efficient and a hatchback like the golf 1.6 blue motion is way more economical

Anton Vlasenko the stock price does not tell you much about the company. the stock prices are manipulated daily by all sorts of people. the media has been trying to kill Tesla from day 1. anyway the fact that Elon Musk has the full support from the founders of Google means that Tesla has all the help it needs. Tesla has investors from Google, Apple and Facebook.

I'm totally confused...is this thing actually supposed to impress design conscious buyers, in a conservative way? I don't know which is more unpleasant to look at, the Prius or an angry hippopotamus mobile that is this weird KIA. I bet the resale value will be tragic as a non-Toyota hybrid vehicle anyway, even more with Toyota's forthcoming compact hybrid SUV.
