The Kia Sorento PHEV is technologically advanced, spacious, functional, safe, and eco-friendly!
The Sorento PHEV’s fully electric driving range of 51 km helps you save on gas for a fuel-efficient ride. Its hybrid battery system gives you the confidence you need to go further on your next adventure. Positioned above the 2022 Kia Sorento Hybrid, the 2022 Kia Sorento PHEV combines a 1.6-liter T-GDi turbo-four mill with a 66.9 kW electric motor, and the resulting combined power output is 261 hp. Kia mounts the electric motor between the engine and a 6-speed automatic transmission. The 2022 Kia Sorento PHEV gets an AWD system with center locking differential and selectable drive modes, including a Snow mode as standard. So if you want to know how to save fuel, choose the PHEV Sorento! The plug-in hybrid midsize SUV competes with the Hyundai Santa Fe PHEV and the Mitsubishi Outlander PHEV.
So check out why the Sorento PHEV and find out why it's fuel-efficient, yet it can't stop burning fuel when it's cold outside!

The Kia Sorento PHEV can't stop burning fuel in winter or when it's cold outside! But it's still fuel efficient! Are you thinking of buying a Hybrid or PHEV vehicle soon because of the climbing gas price?

Which is better for snow driving, Sorento PHEV or Sportage PHEV? Also, is there any difference in snow handling between PHEV and PEV models?

I love that you made a comment on the engine running in the winter (due to no heat pump). I've watched many review videos on this car and so far noone has mentioned the winter aspect of driving this vehicle. This is a very important point, because people hoping to drive on mostly EV are going to be disappointed/shocked when they want heat

One more thing I need to ad which is huge shortcoming of hybrid cars and particularly PHEV. I mean fuel diluton. Simply when you drive especially in winter at short distances and your petrol engine is all the time not reaching the regular working temperature teh petrol comes easily to the oil. I have experence it. Bout new Sorento in November. After 5 months checked the oil level and being shocked. Teh level went very far over max level and the color was almost transparent (light straw). I went immediately to the service and they changed oil suggesting from time to time to warm the engine driving fast. I have not hard how often "from time to time" means. It is tru taht my Sorento 75% is going only in the city and also at short distances but this oil dilution aspect may create engine huge problems in coming years.

I have owned the PHEV for a year and have found that, if you are running in EV mode and the engine starts to run the heat, the engine is IDLING. it is NOT powering the car and is using minimal gas. If you watch the display it will show that the engine is also recharging the battery. Amazing engineering!

@@CarQuestion I love my PHEV Sorento! It is the perfect combination, electric car for city use and gasoline car for longer-distance travel. Charging on 110V overnight allows me to run 32-40 miles on electric power for about 80 cents. I comment almost every time I drive it how much I like it.

The gas motor running isn't actually a bad thing. You do not want a 100% cold motor when you run out of battery range, get on the freeway or go up a steep hill and kick the gas motor on. The motor going from cold to instant hard acceleration isn't a good thing. This way the motor has a change to warm up with a low load. My Niro phev does the same thing, but still can get over 80-100 mpg driving in EV with the gas motor running for heat. And the gas isn't wasted, it runs about 1300rpm and charges the battery as it warms up.

Excellent Canadian winter review. PHEV's will continue to get squeezed by BEV's on price and performance so manufacturers need to move quickly in this space. As charging EV charging infrastructure is built-up, the PHEV argument weakens (but still relevant for more remote areas with poor EV infrastructure). Too bad a heat pump is not included. A slight bump in battery size to capture the higher Canadian subsidy (and increase the EV range) would be nice too. Love the sideways action shots. As-is though, KIA will no doubt sell every unit they can produce.

Love our two Toyota Rav 4 Primes. Coming out of a second winter and in the low 20’s not once did they kick on gasoline. The heat pump zaps 15% of the battery but the trade off is heat in the cabin and no gasoline.

The RAV4 Prime has a really impressive drivetrain. Wish Toyota would put it in the Sienna or other larger SUVs. Until then, alternatives are things like this Sorento. Which appears to be a bit of a let down in the drivetrain department...

The engine runs in the cold (idles) not just to help the climate control it idles to be warm if you need extra power when you need it and engine isn’t cold. Number 1 best feature is only phev suv with a spare wheel. Number worst feature is despite the leg room the door is not very wide so the door frame is infront of your shoulders if you’re tall, so you can’t roll the window down and rest your arm on the door. Also be nice if lane assist could be permanently turned off. But all the big pros outweigh the those cons. Super economical if your daily commute is less than 55kms.

I don't understand why folks drive with the their heater on "HI" during the winter? You just leave it on the desired temperature and have the computer figure it out so that will mitigate gas usage. PHEV's are just gas mitigators, not gas eliminators.

@@cgviper1 So put the heaters on for long enough to de-ice the windows the switch them off. Sure in super cold climates you have a point but the majority of people this would not apply to. In those countries one needs an EV with an Air Driven Pump.
@cgviper1
@cgviper1 2 жыл бұрын
@@moboy4779 an on and off approach will not work in Canadian winters. However it’s really a moot point, if the idea is a PHEV is meant to run solely on electric this in itself is incorrect. A PHEV must run it’s engine at times so it can be ready for when needed. If you want to run just off electric get a BEV. There are plenty of videos explaining why it’s best practice to let a PHEV run the engine when it needs to.
