The Kia Stonic is an affordable compact SUV and has long-term ownership promise on its side - but the engine in the lower specs lets it down.
It isn't a deal breaker - and you mightn't even care that much if you're spending most of your time doing the urban commute - but when you compare it to rivals like the Skoda Kamiq, Ford Puma and Volkswagen T-Cross, it feels really slow.
Other elements of the drive experience are good, from the sporty ride and steering to the ease of parking. And it's a surprisingly well packaged small SUV, with enough space for taller occupants and bigger bodies in the back seat. Plus the boot isn't too bad, either.
But you might need to figure out whether the S or Sport grades do the job for you, or if - like our contributing journalist, Helen Frost - you think the GT-Line with the turbo engine could actually be a much better bet for the Stonic.
