Program Note: Family Photos is a musical collage of personally significant places from my childhood. The first movement, “At the Carnival,” takes inspiration from the whimsy and spectacle of my neighborhood carnival. “On the Tehran Tower,” the second movement, incorporates elements of Iranian classical music, inspired by my childhood trips to visit family in Tehran. The third and final movement, “In Arcadia,” represents not only my hometown in the suburbs of Los Angeles, but also the Arcadia of Ancient Greek mythology, a heaven on Earth.

Coming back for another listen. Simply one of the best contemporary string quartet pieces I've run across. The final movement is pure rapture. So touching. Bravo, Mr. Ravaei.

This is incredible. Incredible music. The first movement is spectacular, it captures the energy of a fair. The second movement is incredible as well, with the effects especially microtones. I love it. The last movement is so beautiful, you need to just take a step back and listen to the magnificent sounds that Mr. Ravaei has created. This is one of the first 21st century works that I've gotten addicted to, and it always gets stuck in my head. Bravo!

man if you need a percussion sounds instead using your strings instrument why not use a real one? You know I mean.... just add the percussion, sounds more like percussion, example at 1:42 just put a bongo / conga besides your cellist... easy peasy

Then it wouldnt be a string quartet, plus he was probably looking for that exact sound, and i mean its still a real tehnique that is more or less often used in modern music.

You can't always expect a non-percussionist to use proper technique on the drums. At a concert I went to there was a mixed chamber piece where the non-percussionist performers played percussion instruments and their technique was...something else.
