This culture couldn't even handle phone books anymore, because it's the culture being bad. Tacit allowance that normal people SHOULD just hope to not get attacked in their homes, if the "public" goes after them. You're gonna pretend it's about propriety when it's only about puritanism that extends even in here. In reality, most violence and doxxing is between randos, like a coworker knwoing where you live. Same spaghetti over the fact why JAV is censored. And that EXACT reasoning still expands to some labor force BS, non-competition clauses, that eromanga needs to be censored, because it's not fair to hard-working JAV girls if there's that, I guess competition in the market. And don't blame me, they DO expand those CENSURE laws, so THEY make the connection, not me. The way I see it it's not "privacy" of your genitals when you literally monetize and publicize a work ABOUT your genitals. Why the hell are you producing any material at all if the point is then to illegalize it? CS LEwis, a christian, already made this point long time ago, that if a salivating crowd is gathering over a burlesque show around a roasted chicken, it's not a healthy way or healthy OPPORTUINTY to think about chicken. It's an addicted culture with not enough maturity IN IT to carry on an adult APPROACH to these things. No adult should be suffered to lower that bar so low, as to be so incapable of handling adult topics. Creating the continutity where you don't HAVE means of passing the same strength to your children either, like the adult ALSO needs to be kept away from the cookie jar.

What wawa doesn't say is this: uniformity enforces the standard and in this case, the standard is the safety of the persons working for the company. Given previous events such as: Grimmie's horrific death, as an indicator of sanity in the world, KyoAni's 36 souls and 33 injured, and on the very other end of the spectrum, Mighty Car Mods from Australia having someone drop at their mum's place or the thefts or the incessant fans who don't understand that being public doesn't mean one doesn't want privacy and so on and so fort with a sheet list long enough to span the distance from the Moon to Earth...given all that, i think it's perfectly reasonable. I think it's more than reasonable, i think it's required and i think Cover did the right thing. We've seen people found from very little details. All it takes is a single detail to click with one person. And while yes, (as coined) "forbidden knowledge" does exist and is public to some extent, we circle back to goal. To protect the employees. And to do that, you need uniformity across the board, because there's nutters who will stalk and bypass these safeties through "the weakest link" (used as an expression). TLDR: not everyone understands privacy and not everyone takes their meds. Imagine what someone would feel if they found out that through proxy (their proxy) one of their friends was hurt. So blurry hands it is and stop flapping about it.

That's a fair assessment about uniformity which I didn't consider. Everything Kiara said is what I think most of us already assumed, but my real gripe is how it's enforced on everyone. Not everyone has identifying features on their hands and not everyone cares about "muh immershun," and now it ends up impacting on the creativity and options of some members. On the other hand (pun not intended) if it was mandatory back when Ollie did her hand stream, she wouldn't have been harassed. That said I still think it should be optional, and they should all be trained on the reasons they should _consider_ using gloves. Unfortunately we're just going the Japanese route: the rules are for everyone, deal with it.

She mentioned this briefly before after her stream was privated that included her, iRyS, and Calli's hands but further context is always appreciated. From a company standpoint, it really makes the most sense as they do need to enforce uniformity in matters like this so that others aren't possibly put into uncomfortable situations. I think that most everyone at this point KNOWS what Kiara looks like as she's still very active on her PL which is NOT a Vtuber so it doesn't fall under their noncompete clause BUT most of the other talents in the agency don't do IRL PL stuff actively and, just like her manager, shouldn't have to possibly be put in a situation where things are revealed about them that might not only be compromising to "immersion" but more so for their physical safety.

I've never really been fond of "enforced privacy." I've seen VTubers say "I can't say this because of privacy" so they go to their alternate account and tell people there. It's possible that it's more about covering legal liability for the company. I'd prefer them being able to share things about themselves if they want to. Or at least if the "privacy" pretense was dropped and we could just start saying it's for legal reasons. I think people don't do that thought because "privacy" is a more defensible term but "legal" can easily have more nefarious implications.
@ariadame1027 ай бұрын
@@TheAdmiral14 What are you on about? Privacy is within the realm of legality. Privacy matter is legal matter. Using "legal" instead of "privacy" would only make it more vague. These things have been agreed upon between employers and employees. What you prefer is really irrelevant, neither is your opinion on whether the rule is justified.
@TheAdmiral147 ай бұрын
@@ariadame102 Well, as a customer of a company my opinion is relevant; this is why companies do market research, but anyways. Yes, using legal instead of privacy would make things more vague. That's part of why they do it. The other part is that privacy is easier to defend. It's hard to make an argument for people having less privacy and come out looking okay. That's why they say they do things for privacy reasons. If they say it's for legal reasons - even if it is - it looks like it's more open for debate. Legal does not necessarily mean ethical after all. And I know these are standard practices required by contract. That's the point. That's why I don't like them.

People on the internet used star maps, plane flight paths and ambient noise to locate a stream of a flag. They're capable of finding anything given nothing. It's terrifying
@SenseofNoneYT8 ай бұрын
Understandable. In the same vein of Cover terminating contracts with any talent who breaks NDA even when they were on good terms, Cover is also responsible for protecting their privacy. And so long as they're responsible, they're gonna be as strict as they can be. So far, the safest IRL content they can make under Hololive are pre-recorded ones. They even allow Vlogs (such as Bae's strawberry adventure with IRyS, Kiara's camping and paragliding, bungie jumping in Legend of Polka, HoloGamers onsen trip) albeit usually heavily-edited. But livestreams are a different story. I think just the potential to threaten privacy is reason enough for Cover to make a rule about it. It's not that something happened in those handcam streams. It's that nothing has happened yet and it's better to keep it that way.

Kiara: “I’m white.” Uki: faints
@rideronthedrumbeat8 ай бұрын
I think she explained this really well. If Hololive didn't have these rules, people like Kiara and Calli (who have both said they're white, just like their models) could show their hands freely, but someone like Ollie (whose skin tone obviously wouldn't match her model) would be forced to wear gloves all the time. Having a standard makes it more fair for everyone.
@7QWERTY138 ай бұрын
A long time ago, I think Ollie did actually have an accident showing more than she intended, and the reaction was incredibly mean spirited. The incident was painful for her, and every time people suggest that holomems should show more of themselves or "who cares if immersion is broken", I think about that incident. No, you don't want them to show anything, and you don't ever need to see anything. Let them stay safe, let the avatars do their jobs. Being able to stream without being judged for one's appearance is one of vtubing's greatest gifts, and we really need to appreciate what an equalizer it is. We DO NOT need to see anything.

The safety concern aspect is absolutely understandable. Theres a lot of crazy fans out there. Willing to take every little detail they see to use and potentially track talents. I remember hearing a story where someone was tracked by the reflection off their eyes.

If that's the case, don't do any IRL streams. Unless you have some hand tattoo or something, this is absurdly excessive.

Sadly, there are some real creeps and messed up people. For context in Japan (the country where kiara's company is) an idol was stalked and sexually assaulted, the guy was able to figure out where she lives based her twitter timeline about train stations, and the location of her apartment based on the the timestamps and light entering the window and even reflection in her eyes.

It's called cutting off a potential problematic culture shift (immersion shift), which is why Hololive is very good at managing their talents and knowing what they are doing. Understandable reasons too!
