the only western influence is espada y daga..others are old forms using blades (kalis) before the spanish came, visayans used moro weapons acquired thru raids. the main one is kampilan, then kalis(kris/keris) and baraw (daga/cuchillo/punyal = all spanish words) just because we use spanish words on alot of the items now doesn't mean it came from the west. it just means during the colonization the spanish instilled us to use those words..like bilanggo was an original Visayan word before priso
@WayanMajere Жыл бұрын
I don't know if it's because of influences or maybe by Chance, but for example the whole triangle footwork looks a lot like spanish fencing methods of the 16th and 17th century. And if you find Videos of people making medieval unarmed techniques a lot of it looks like unarmed Filipino stuff (and the rest looks like wrestling.) But of course there was a warrior Tradition long before the spanish arrived and a lot of that is used today.

That's why it's called one inch punch. It's actually a concept in southern Chinese MA that's called "fa jing" meaning explosive power. How many boxers can do that without drawing back? How many people can actually execute a punch that pushes back his enemy?

Oooh, that hurts just to watch*_* I'd assume the trick to it is to hit the blade straight on without any dragging across the skin, since it's hard to cut anything with a knife just pressing on it. I guess he got nervous and slid it just enough to chop in. At least it will teach the viewers to pay attention when they say 'don't try this at home'...

Here is what I think he did wrong. The blade should only be sharpened well, in one small spot. Then, only enough to cut fruit, or soft wood going with the grain to make it appear really sharp, when it's not. 2. When he cuts himself, he's supposed to use the DULL part of the blade.

nope Lapu-lapu is not an arnis master. Arnis/eskrima/kali that exist now is not the same system when the spanish came. but we did have an old system. before war, we Visayans used a war dance called Salabay. it's more likely using techniques in the art of using blades

hehehe. He did not know what my warrior ancestors always say. "RESPECT THE BLADE". This is a living proof that the chinese chi is not true when it comes to slashing of blades. Kali is pure and simple application of logic. Imagine A machete slashing a hard metal pipe. It may not cut the pipe but it will show some damage where some steel will be chipped-off. What more if you do it even against the hardest of human flesh? RESPECT THE BLADE.

Too bad this guy got hurt. It seems like a waste to injure himself trying to demonstrate this. No one can prevent getting cut by a live blade in combat once the weapon reaches its target. So, the only relevance to combat this would seem to have is as a mental training regimen, but the risks far outweigh any benefit that could be obtained.

@ohmandamp16 жыл бұрын
Chinese call it chi and qi. Japanese and Korean call it Ki. The elements in China are not the same with the other part of the world. They are metal, wood, water, fire, and earth. It's a cycle of balance, I wouldn't exactly call it chi.
