Just so people know, Iwo Jima was the only U.S. Marine battle where the Americans had more dead or wounded than the Japanese, 26,000 American casualties and 21,000 Japanese. At Okinawa, the Americans bore over 49,000 casualties including 12,520 killed. Japanese losses were even greater-about 110,000 Japanese soldiers lost their lives. It's estimated between 40,000 and 150,000 Okinawa citizens were also killed. so 2 Islands and somewhere between 350.000 to 500,000 casualties. And so many people still glorify war. Sad that so many lives ended and whole family groups wiped out.

Very Briefly : the island was isolated for good time While the DY american forces enjoyed steady and stable supply lines and were supported by heavy naval and air fire, in the same time the Japanese forces were struggling to stay cohesive while fighting tenaciously in every location. They were besieged and deprived of supplies and subsistence (food, drinking water, ammunition, aid, weapons, ), In the end the DY americans forced to use the incendiary weapons, especially napalm to break the fighting spirit of a remnant of a military garrison was starved and fought without drinking water for good time ..... Tactically the Japanese Imperial army and Naval forces needed three defensive lines in the sea consisting of: A- belts of fixed mines and other free moving either magnetic or motor Sound sensors within certain frequencies. B-belts or Overlapping defensive points consisting of pipes to launch torpedoes extending between the shore and the depth of the sea. C - across the island shores especially toward the expected sailing approaches & landing coasts two or three different lines or belts of pipes with good depths to pump flammable materials .These lines are supported by a combination of offensive submarines, alongside speed torpedo boats , for patrols, surveillance , to counter enemy reconnaissance activities and and guarding these underwater defensive weapons & equipment which should be camouflaged and well hidden ,then employe those speedy and highly agile torpedo boats alongside the submarines for skirmishing and engaging the enemy invasion fleet until the weapons of those fixed defensive lines are activated exhausting the enemy fleet before reaching the main defensive line ( wear and tear ) ,but it is much easier to be said than done because the DY americans naval task force utilize various types of aircraft carriers . behind these lines and belts they should had been constructed an anti landing concrete obstacles to preventing , stopping , slow down and then control the movements of the invasion forces before try to destroy them or direct those forces into a killing zones . behind this passive defensive lines or belts spread a line of fortified and camouflaged fortifications for heavy caliber long ranges naval artillery propped by medium caliber and range naval artillery for flexible fire power , to engage the main battle ships and destroyers cruisers and frigates alongside the troops / weapons transport ships and main landing vessels ....etc., and try to sink the largest number of them and work to isolate them from the main thrust of the landing forces and work hard to prevent them from providing support fire for those amphibious landing forces .... @eagleeye66914 жыл бұрын
@@jeremykillpatrick5074 Just a briefed general ideas : I think our Japanese friends approach were very wrong , The question how can you fortified every island and turn it to a citadel that cannot be broken or breached, given the huge inbalance of power between the two parties, while granting the enemy the freedom of movement and action, reaching the theater of operations or the battlefield without depleteing those forces and weakening task forces or the invasion units , and working hard to strip it from its qualitative weapons the fire support assets ( like the battleships , destroyers , and maybe kuscraft carriers if it was in ranges of the defensive arrangements ) , were playing according to the enemy textbook . Notice that building a warship consumes a lot of raw materials: for example, thousands of tons of iron ore that is converted into steel. These thousands of tons of floating steel are useless as Japan loses air dominance over the Pacific ocean theater of operation . This is why these huge material and human resources should had been redirected to the manufacture and operation of : 1- fighter aircrafts especially interceptors , and attack aircrafts , then the heavy bombers to strike hawaii islands and the english colonies new zealand, australia, and previously India . 2- shallow waters and blue waters torpedo launch tubes with massive amounts of improved torpedoes types , 3- mass production AAA systems with great emphasis on the heavy long ranges and medium ranges AAA to counter the DY americans heavy high altitude bombers coupled with the working to develop the right ammunitions from all calibers to ensure the shoot down of various types of enemy bombers , strike kuscrafts and fighter kuscrafts with the minimum amount of ammo, But worth noting here that the low to medium level fighter / bombers were very dangerous and it is occupies the forefront in priority, and the highset importance on the tactical , operational , strategic lists of threats because it is more numerous and much flexible and is the advanced strike arm that facilities the conquering of the pacific ocean islands and permit the deployments of heavy bombers. and this is why the manufacture and intensification of the deployment of AAA weapons in the early stages of the war should have been directed to confront those types of platform the kuscrafts carrier based combat planes , especially after the Battle of the coral sea. This trend should have been strengthened after a battle of midway . 4- mines especially marine . 5- howitzers and field guns, 6- mlrs systems, 7- anti-tanks launchers , 8-various types of flamethrowers ..... etc., notice here We did not talk about the importance of manufacturing radar systems manufacturing and the integration of radar systems into the air & marine defense networks of the Japanese islands . although the F germans were using those systems onboard its combat ships , and they should understand even partially the advantages of employing those systems especially in the open seas ( Pacific ocean theater of operation ) . Of course, Japan as an island with almost no raw materials and depend fully on exterior supplying to meet its domestic needs and run their industrial capacity so our Japanese friends cannot completely abandon the seas , but the important thing here is to content with three marine platforms : A- Submarines for defensive and offensive activities beside reconnaissance notice Japan had at that time a very advanced submarines industry , B- Fast frigates to combat DY american submarines, C- ultra fast attack boats equipped with torpedoes and anti-ship missiles , those boats highly maneuvers so it can conduct very fast attacks especially at night and withdrawal safely avoiding the enemy counter fire . The important thing is not only quantitative production or the mass production capabilities as vladimir lenin says that quantity is quality by itself , but this theory is incorrect in its absolute form. For example, what stopped the F germans panzer formations on the walls of moscow were the miserable bolsheviks tank formations made of t34 and kv1 and not the miserable bolsheviks ( tanks divisions , corps and armies ) equipped with the t26 , bt5, bt7, t46 .....etc of light and medium tanks, that in the opening stages of the F german offensive turned into a burdens in the tactical combat level ( mostly became a mobile coffins for those platforms crews ) and complete disaster in the operational level due to their inability to counter the wide penetrations of the F germans panzer divisions and to keep up with the pace of rapid changing in the combat situation across the fronts that stretched to over 2000 km , even if strategically those light and medium tanks contributed partly to delaying F germans invasion plan time table and played a minor rols in the consumption of ammunition and fuel for the F germans armored and motorized fighting formations . In my opinion, even in the final stages of the war, had Japan possessed the arms projects of the F germans the DY americans would have incurred much heavy losses. although our Japanese friends in the later stages of the war fought from a very honorable ideological cultural and patriotic point of view but this brave combat efforts lacked on many pages the necessary combat effectiveness , one of which was to leave defense plans of the islands (or at least their main lines and general principles) to field commanders . Defending the islands or the protecting belts and defensive ranges of the islands in theory start from attacking the enemy naval task force while its still forming and gathering in his seaports and naval bases ( in the building of force phase ) if you had good intelligence services , while practically it starts from the open sea and ended in front of the beaches of these islands . our Japanese friends lost thousands of their highly motivated soldiers on desperate banzai attacks , those thousands of soldiers could have been used in a much better combat position at concrete sites, heavily fortified shelters, and belts of fixed defensive lines that start from the shores , while deploying at least two batteries ( totaling 12 guns ) ground variant of the Type 94 naval gun with extended barrel length to L50 or L60 could had been very effective in fighting back the DY americans large battleships the iowa-class battleships , In addition to what I mentioned in my previous post about the necessity of deploying other types of guns with various calibers to give the firepower sufficient flexibility to deal with a wide spectrum of targets . The rest regarding the operational and tactical levels of the battle management is what was came in my previous comment . .... Always And Forever May GOD Bless The Un United States Of HM Shninasios .....

So, 1km away from the target which is dangerously close when it comes to artillery, the BM-31 Katyusha had a range of 5.5km, the German 21 cm NbW 42 had a range of over 7km, and even the T-34 Calliope had a range over 3.5km.
