Mark Zielke no its a proven aircraft that the U.S military designed back in I think the 60s, the problems however was you needed lots of training just to land the damn thing, and not only that I wasn't the most nimble of aircraft design. I can't remember a lot about it but if you look up weird military aircraft you'll definitely find info on it.

Mark Zielke the Lockheed XFV was the U.S take with it being prop driven and the C-450 was the French design being powered by a turbine engine, both made in the 50s not the 60s.

1) VTOLS already exist. 2) Helicopters aren't slow, they're quite fast, and they can already lifeflight people to hospitals within the hour, save for the most middle-of-nowhere of locations. 3) You can't just give aircraft to random civilians. Airspace is regulated, and even if it wasn't it would be incredibly unsafe to have multiple people in the same area flying these things. 4) Not every random Joe has the capacity or the time to learn how to fly aircraft that exist, let alone some crazy new machine no one knows how to pilot yet. 4) If you're a professional planning on building a helicopter/airplane, why the fuck is your prototype a child's Microsoft Paint drawing? Where the hell is your 3D model at the very least? Where is your virtual prototype being tested in an accurate simulation program to see if the fucking thing could even fly? Why are you asking for funding before doing even the most basic of prototype design? I wish I could just draw some crazy machine in Paint and then ask for thousands of dollars, oh wait, literally anyone could do that.

The military have tried to make this project continuously from WW2 until around the '80s. As you might well know, they failed. The instability of a prop aircraft trying to fly like a helicopter and land on its tail, the difficulty of the pilot to see anything at all, they had all been solved by the '80s through technology, gyroscopes, computers, cameras etc. However the disorientation isn't going to be fixed, and if that can screw with military test pilots I doubt some ditzy soccer mum will be safe. Add the fact that it is incredibly poor with regards to energy efficiency and a simple trip to the supermarket would cost excessive amounts on petrol, the time taken to take off, land, and follow a safe flight pattern would significantly add to any journey no matter how short, and the fact that there are already better solutions to helicopter/airplane hybrid vehicles like the $72 million V-22 Osprey and similar helicopters following the pattern of a vectored thrust rotor costing similarly excessive amounts and this kickstarter is utterly useless even with infinite funding. You would have thought an engineer capable of making a helicopter/airplane hybrid would be able to sit down and consider all that but clearly not.

Risks and challenges: 1) Finding a pilot willing to attempt to land this thing *backwards* because its 'design' (hesitant to even call it that) pretty much demands it 2) even if we find someone willing to do it, paying for said pilot to receive special training to do something completely counter-intuitive. 3) finding an engineer who can work with our crude MS paint 'schematics' 4) renting the airspace to even test this thing in the first place 5) finding a way to ensure the pilot's safety if something goes wrong, as you can see this thing in flight does not look like it would exactly support parachutes or an ejector seat since that would get him thrown into the rotor of this abomination 6) making sure that the dash on this thing will never ever fail since the pilot cannot rely on his eyes since, as you can see, he cannot use his eyes with that massive rotor inches from the cockpit. 7) getting it to fly in the first place with no wings on either side to create lift and the rotor that would do this for a helicopter is in a fucking vertical intersection with the craft rather than both horizontal and above it like it SHOULD be. All these things that could potentially maybe pose a problem or two, and they went with the cheeky 'might not get funded' route. EDIT: Did I hear one of these guys claim to actually be an Aerospace Engineer? I mean I am not one but I *am* training to be a pilot and I see several flaws with this thing just by looking at it. I could go on with the risks (such as 'the pilot better not have a fear of heights because it almost looks like the cockpit is going to have him looking DOWN the entire time') but I think the point has been made.

Having a single propeller would cause torque rolls while hovering, and the aircraft would be unstable when landing vertically. It's why planes can't fly backwards. (The center of mass is ahead of the center of lift)

You also can't fly below a certain altitude in built up areas. Nor can you fly over suburbs after a certain time (depending on the local government's restrictions). You can't block certain airways due to commercial air traffic. You can't land wherever you want. You need the proper facilities to maintain it on your property or wherever you're storing it (which would cost a lot of money). You'd also need regular maintenance checks to certify it's airworthiness, heavy taxation on it due to it being a privately owned air vehicle, pretty hefty insurance, and full training on how it works (I'd say at least 60 hours in a highly accurate simulation of it would be enough before an instructor can put you in the real thing to certify you which'd be say.. another 60 hours?). I think I see a few problems with the 'free parking' thing.

This looks like the XFY pogo, a military designed aircraft from around the 60's, it could take off and fly well but landing it is virtually impossible and takes incredibly skilled fighter pilots to even get that far.
