Yes Kasia. I do consider you a friend. Thank you for creating and holding a safe space. Thank you for asking me and most importantly, listening to me without judgment or a need to justify your own feelings about this card. There is a mind bender of an old lady and a young woman. Many who look at the image will see one or the other. It will take a few minutes to see both in their context. It's the same with this card. The initial perspective is dependent on many factors, none which are wrong. No feeling nor opinion should be discounted, but all should be honoured. As I said, it can be difficult to look at the ugliness of humanity but we must confront it full on so that we can change it. The changes may not happen in my lifetime, but I damn sure will make every effort to bring some insight and hopefully a few drops of healing to those who need it. Stay blessed, Queen Auset

I love finding your channel, always thoughtful commentary. I am from a history of abuse and domestic abuse, the ten of swords brought that up for me. We all see through a veil of our own scars when confronted I suppose. 💜💜

I get you about about the custom charge fees. Can I correct you and say that not all black people felt offended by the 10 of swords cards( i didn't) and that not all blacks were enslaved (such as my ancestors). Their are many different cultures within black communities(just as there are in white communities) we are not all the same and have different ancestral histories . Some black peoples ancestral history is the slave ship and others are African tribes that can find out their ancestral history orally via a King's man from their clan or surname. Although myself and the lovely Oya's Girl are both black, we are from different black cultures and interpreted the card differently due to our different ancestral histories I have a different perceptive on the card and see it as African tribe marks . I actually like the depiction of the 10 of swords and hope it is not changed. thank you for sharing ❤😊

It doesn't look like whip marks at all to me. It looks like the swords stabbed her and were removed and she is healing...perfect for the card.

@@tarotmap Has the 10 of Swords been changed? I have missed the indie version of the Light Seers Tarot deck from both the Kickstarter and Chris-Anne's website and will only be able to now purchase the mass produced Hay House version of the deck once it has been published. I didn't mind the card at all, to me it is beautiful and very evocative. Sad, evocative and full of hope. Thanks Kasia for posting your thoughts! xo

You raise a lot of good questions about our personal and cultural histories and our reactions when others have strong reactions to speech and art. I also value your questions around art and what responsibility an artist has. I really respect Chris-Ann for responding and I also respect her decision to change the image. It was her decision in the end. I think people always have a right to their opinion and feelings but sometimes I find as you said, people act horribly on-line when they probably would never act so badly in person. We can call for a change without sinking to character assassination. We can decide to not support a product. No one has cornered the market on suffering, we can see horrific acts throughout history, but there is a big difference between oppression and the systematic and on-going brutality of racism. I really value your insights and your perspectives Kasia as you know. :)

I totally get what you mean about the expense of buying decks abroad. Like delivery isn't expensive enough they slap on a customs charge as well. I did back the light seer tarot. I did see the 10 of swords image earlier in the development of the deck and honestly it was one of the cards that made me want to back the deck. I find it to be a powerful image of a woman that clearly has been through some difficult experiences in her life and has survived with the ability to empower herself from what she has been through in the past. However, that was my interpretation that came from my own life experience. As far as associating the card with slavery I thought maybe she could have been a slave as well as she could have been a survivor of abuse at the hands of family members or a partner. My mind never went to 'she has these scars on her back so she must be a slave'. It wasn't until some people brought it up that it become apparent to me that it was what some people saw the image as representing and I do respect their perspective. Maybe my perspective was different because I was born in the UK with Caribbean ancestry and even though they did experience slavery I think because of the differences in the overall history in comparison to African American history for instance. Maybe that's where the interpretation might have been different. I'm not entirely sure. Just like you touched on different countries have different histories. I do think that Chris Anne's response was really considerate. That she truly ment no harm with the imagery. It was unfortunate to read comments of others that where quite hurtful and dismissive of the experience of those that had an issue with the image. I have seen the same response to issues concerning other decks in the past and Chris Anne I have to say is the first deck creator I have seen that actually was willing to acknowledge the pain of those affected, apologise and provide a solution which I give her much respect for doing.

I live in the UK and l learned that there are no import fees on books or "printed paper". It has to be stated on the customs form though. Customs do not understand words like the ... Tarot/Oracle. I ordered an Indie Tarot deck asking them to mark it as printed cards but it was still sent as the deck name so I got hit by the tax/fees... Frustrating.

I think creator's can't deal with individual requests when they post heaps of decks. Too much work unfortunately.

Beautifully said. I want to discuss solutions. Or the question of censorship to appeal to masses and how it affects creative flow. We are responsible for our own path of healing. I don't see resolution in focusing on the negative.

Regarding the 10 of Swords thing. I feel like we've come to a point where artistic intention doesn't matter any more and I think that's tragic. Understanding and dialogue are based on understanding intention, rather than just fixating on how we feel. And in addition, we seem to think that art shouldn't make us feel bad, or anything at all. I don't "enjoy" being triggered by art, but I think that sometimes that's a testament to its greatness, rather than faultiness. In fact, if we consider the meaning of 10 of swords... it's exactly what it's supposed to do. I think it's important that we listen and understand each other, that includes the artist and the audience. My grandmother was severely triggered by ww2 movies because she spent the war as a half-Jewish woman in Nazi Hungary, and I remember her always changing channels when ww2 movies would come on and violent movies in general. But she never thought Schindler's List shouldn't have been made because she was triggered by it. She knew how important it was for us and the world to understand her trauma, and she knew that both her personal story and art stemming from it were steps in that direction. Censorship doesn't resolve trauma, it conserves it.

I missed this Kickstarter and oh my I love The Muse deck. I’ve recently moved to South Florida and have felt a bit disconnected from my land base. This deck, especially the water suit, is just what I’ve been looking for. I’m so glad I can buy it outside the Kickstarter. Sad about the 10 of Swords image in the Light Seer’s deck, the original evokes such feelings of compassion in me. I hope we can work together to heal these wounds.

These are such beautiful decks from Chris-Anne. I’ve yet to purchase them. And, thank you for your insights into the controversy of the 10ofS. That is truly an amazing card to me. Personally I do not feel it should have been changed.

I agree completely with what you said about Chris Anne's artwork and her integrity. I think our response to art and everything else in this world is our own responsibility. That's why I don't read newspapers and I don't watch horror movies.

Yaaaaaaaaaassss the shipping fees are CRAZY for international, especially since I stay in Singapore; I'm just lucky that we don't have crazy custom fees. I've to be super selective in the decks I choose. I find it so hard to even comment about the whole debacle for the 10 of Swords because of the pain surrounding it; I applaud you for talking about it. I think what picks at me most is where people who didn't buy or intend to buy the deck contributed to the anger.

I’m from the south in American. I’ve seen the KKK march several times and it’s horrible, so I come from a place where this is an extremely delicate subject. I think you discussed it well. It’s just too delicate to talk about. America doesn’t own slaves anymore with whips, but they have them as slaves in the “system”. They systematically keep them in jail and the entire subject of slavery is extremely crucial in America. I understand and appreciate the card. But some people will not.

I think it is delicate that's why we need to talk about it. But also because it is so delicate we must learn to communicate in a way that it is possible to actually express our feelings without "killing the other" in the process... I agree totally about the whole system...it's wrong from the core

As a woman of color, I personally did not take offense by the 10 of swords and I thought it was a beautiful depiction. I was able to order the deck after the kickstarter, and it will not come with this card. However, I understand that some people were offended. I think Chris Anne showed empathy and really went out of her way to accommodate those who complained. I believe she tried to be inclusive and I appreciate her for her efforts. Many deck creators obviously do not care about inclusion. We will not always agree and we all see things through our filters. There are many tarot and oracle decks that offend me as a woman of color. When they do, I simply do not purchase them. I appreciate content creators like you who show deck walk throughs so I can always make an educated decision :) Thank you!

It is such a hard decision to make as an artist...Im not sure what I would have done, if I was Chris Anne! I think she handled it great but then someone wrote that politicians do what art shouldn't be doing- hiding the hard stuff under the surface...

Kasia, well said. I saw the image of the 10 of swords and thought wow.....it's an image without 10 swords jammed in a person's back. I've always had an issue with that card. It's hard for me not to see death. Its disappointing that deck creators are doing this. The new images are always disappointing.

Yes thats why I don't do Kickstarter or the likes of it, the postage to Australia makes it more than the deck and then it always comes out cheaper when a publisher picks it up so I wait if I really like a deck. The way people speak online is atrocious! I liked this 10 Swords, but when I first saw it I was a bit taken aback, but then I focused more on the healing side as to me they look like stitches. However, you raised a good point in wondering if there would of been such a backlash had Christine been a black woman herself, somehow I think not and it must be so hard to be a Artist nowadays in trying not to offend anyone, and still be true to themselves and their Artistic muse. Hats off to her though for taking control over this debacle and changing the card, but I feel its a shame she had too, and if the woman looked white in this card would it have caused such an outcry? Although I don't really see the woman as black, my oldest daughter looks like this, olive skin dark eyes and hair, and I'm blonde with blue eyes as are her children! Her father comes from a Maltese background and yet my youngest is fair shinned like me so I always got asked are they my children 🤷‍♀️ I just wish society as a whole could live in peace no matter what colour or ethnicity we are. My Mother is German so you can guess what I got called at school, and she NEVER talks about Germany, she said Hitler left a legacy that no one could be proud of, so she got naturalised as English when she married my Dad, you can imagine the flack they went through I'm sure marrying the enemy but they have been married for 67 years I think now.

yes, there's so many horrid stories in many countries and nations... I guess the racism, because it is interwoven into the very structure of the consumerism and patriarchal system we all live in, is just so hard to get rid of- as most of us just are racists without even realising it. That's why we need conversation, education and taking responsibility for our own lives and feelings. it comes slowly, but I really believe it is changing...

My Lightseer's Tarot hasn't arrived yet...unless it is in customs and I haven't been notified yet...I don't know...Shipping and customs fees are really a pain and often stops me from buying decks...which is a shame.If I'm honest I didn't feel very happy knowing that the deck is going mass market just a few months after the Kickstarter edition came out (when the Kickstarter edition took so much longer to come out and we have to pay extra as well for customs)...but oh well,that's life. I just hope that the Sacred Creators Oracle goes mass market too...at least that would be some good news :) xx

@@tarotmap Don't get me wrong, I'm glad she got the deal and I hope more of her decks go mass market...It's just with indie decks being expensive most people have to pick and choose which ones they back/buy...so if one knew that they can get the same deck in mass market not long after the indie launch...comparing to another deck that is not available in mass market at all...then the choice may have been different...(due to money restrictions, coz otherwise who doesn't want to have the best version?!)...Anyway, I'm glad I got the deck...just hope it arrives safely :) xx

I totally hear you about customs fees. 😕 I'm Canadian so get hit with them all the time. That being said, I didn't get hit with those fees for these three decks because all the creators are Canadian. 😊

Re the shipping. Im in Canada and have to pay customs fees as well. Not always, which is weird. But even with the Lightseers, she is in Canada as well, and the shipping is still high. As someone who ships out parcels around the world myself, packages start at $22 cND. Anything past the size of a regular envelope. Then shipping international with tracking is like $40. Any inde deck i order, even considered "cheap" by someone in the US...(like $50 US with exchange and shipping is around $100 cnd give or take $15). So I sympathize with you on deck costs. Although i suspect your customs fees may be higher by the sounds of it. Well said on the other 10swords issue!

It was still a kickstarter rant in a big part:)
