Hi! New to this Donghua and i wanna love it but i am SO CONFUSED ABOUT EVERYTHING. I tried watching you and Stitch reacting to pick up answers and clues but i feel left out bc i don’t get it! So, fun fact: Peach wood in Chinese mythology is used to ward away evil and defend against possession and ghosts. So, Lang Qingqiu using a peach wood stake to "kill" Xie Lian was very intentional and may have also been the reason why Hua Cheng's wraith butterfly couldn't find Xie Lian.

I realised that you two are able to decipher a lot of the hidden meanings or intentions between these scenes despite the possible language gap as mandarin is one of the languages with lots of words or phrases which can’t be directly translated into english, and that’s really impressive!:) Not sure if this helps anyone but just to add on a bit if you guys are unaware, the phrases “wa kao”, “kao” or “ta ma” are all cursing in mandarin to express the intense displeasure or emotions of xielian or feng xin. So the reason xielian kept apologising in the cave initially was because he kept getting emotional while expressing his thoughts to hua cheng and ended up using coarse language. Hence, once he realised what he had just said to the ghost king himself he quickly apologised to not offend him and maintain his composure to not completely bare all his negative thoughts of himself.🥹 Feng xin cursing is way more straightforward, instead of just saying “get away!” When wind master touched him it’s just way funnier to note that he shouted “fucking hell!”😂

So interesting that despite Hua Cheng’s warning about the rain, Wind Master took cover but FX did not. He couldn’t. He was being called out by HC not just on his ability to sort out all the remaining ghosts in an instant - that was almost incidental - but on his right to act protective over XL. HC knows what happened and he will never forgive FX. XL finally buying a clue that he might have known HC previously. Like, duh! And I still don’t know how XL got out of that coffin. We know HC did not rescue him. In the books, did we know Qi Rong’s name before he was unmasked? I thought he was just the Green Goblin

This episode was so cinematically beautiful. The team did such an amazing job with season 2. They’ve captured the emotions so well!! The tree of blood when XL was in the coffin. Hua cheng walking away at the end- made you feel a yearning that you didn’t realize was there to begin with. XL’s raw crying scene and HC being so supportive and comforting while still allowing XL to maintain his autonomy. They’re relationship is so beautiful. This story is so beautiful. It’s been 4 years since I’ve read the books, and I’m still not over them. MXTX truly did write a romantic masterpiece. And the donghua team has been delivering!! I hope we won’t have to wait too long for season 3. But my guess is that there will probably be another long wait 😩. Love your reactions as always!

7:30 one thing about this moment here where Xie Lian tells Hua Cheng not to put people up on a pedestal because when you do that the person will ultimately not be able to live up to the expectations put on them. he's not just talking about this from his own experience of his people putting him up on a pedestal and then not being able to live up to their expectations, but also how he had put his father up on a pedestal growing up until he got into his teenage years and started seeing his father for the imperfect person that he was (because being human means being imperfect) and that was an upsetting realization he had and he ended up resenting his father for it as he got older.

This episode coincided with the ending of chapter 23 of volume 2 of the English language version. Next week’s (last) episode will complete chapter 24 and end arc one. But the book (vol 2) continues for another few chapters to start arc 2 (The God-Pleasing Crown Prince) which describes XL’s very first encounter with baby HC and XL’s first ascension.

Were my two favorite scenes, I haven’t finished the books technically on book 2 but (life’s hectic) - So I’ve treated this more as a mystery to solve going in blind, don’t know too too much on who’s with who. 1:50 i don't find it that outrageous. I can think of a few reasons why LQQ would leave the mask. One would be that he doesn't want to humanize his Guoshi. There's a reason why most mooks were full helmets and masks. It's so that we as the audience are distanced from the true humanity of the "enemy" and more focused on the badass in action. By keeping the mask on, LQQ can justify reshaping his teacher as a monster in his own mind. Second, we know that Xie Lian did not unmask himself at all while in service to Yong An. LQQ may have still held some love and respect for his teacher despite everything and decided let him keep that final dignity. Do you think he was asking who's there because he sensed a certain little ghost butterfly? Maybe he's reaching out to a certain little ghost flame from his previous stabbing trauma. 3:35 This actually reminds me of MDZS. There's a little moment where WWX is having a self depreciation episode. LWJ, the pure and untouchable icon, kneels to WXX's level and tells him, " I KNOW you did your best. Nobody should have asked any more of you." 4:30 I'm surprised you guys didn't touch on the fact that Xie Lian probably saw himself in LQQ and wanted to avoid the mistakes he made in his own past. 6:00 Almost as if he had a close look at a suspiciously similar incident before.😏😏 10:45 no but like this really wholesome coming from Feng Xin. He cross dresses despite his fear for women to save his prince. To save Xie Lian from the notorious Ghost King, whose challenge would have killed him if he hadn't refused. Even when they hadn't reconciled concerning their parting 800 years ago. 15:08 I mean, Hua Cheng is going to take every chance to humiliate those 2. They were the only officials who escaped his challenges. Their "betrayals" were also arguably the worst, since they were so close to Xie Lian. So yeah, he's gonna milk this for all its worth. 16:09 woah. WOAH. Xie Lian actually changed his mind! His trust in Hua Cheng is so great that he willingly accepts HC's actions, despite all the heartbreak and potential tragedy. After being such a notoriously stubborn person. I am shook.

Feng Xin didn’t fight HC before. Feng Xin and Mu Qing were the only two who did not accept HC’s challenge. That’s why they’re still alive and the other 33 are dead. The idea of him stocking up on blood for rain is kind of funny tho.
