Fun little detail about the fish being ugly and turning gold: this happens to some goldfish (which are carp and their close relatives) too! Goldfish in ill health or that have been mistreated may habe dull/black scales, and when they regain health and are treated better they turn back to gold

Some dark colored goldfish also get extra shiny scales during breeding season, so I thought the change in scale color was going to be linked to the fish pregnancy scare that Stitch mentioned... 😂 Even though that's a thing that only happens to male goldfish - I just assumed maybe one the servants knew some carp get shiny in the breeding season but didn't know it was a gendered phenomenon... Edit: I am by no means a goldfish expert, I just remembered this getting mentioned in some videos by the KZbinr Luke's Goldies (ran by a goldfish breeder)

I nearly didn't buy this book because the premise sounded too weird, but I'm glad I did. It is the funniest book I have read for a while and I can't wait for vol 2. I like a good transmigration story, and I like that Prince Jing 'The Tyrant' quickly thought there was something strange about his pet fish and thought he was a carp spirit. He very cleverly set up a sort of mirror so he could see what the fish got up to when he wasn't around, and was very happy to see that his 'fish' turned into a very cute twink. The fact that Li Yu has to complete tasks or die irl makes him the most inventive little fish ever! I need to add that the artwork on this book is sumptuous and gorgeous.

This video completely sold me on the series, then I proceesed convince my 68 year old mother to read it by describing the fish getting introduced to the emporer and slapping the concubine in the face a bunch while her son did absolutely nothing to help her, and informing her that the fish has foiled multiple political plots. So far she's been really enjoying it (last time I talked to her on the phone she was right before the point where Chu Yanyu is introduced) and tried to convince her 72 year old friend Maggie to read it as well. I haven't said anything to her about the mpreg, I figured she can find out when she gets to that point. Also, if Kictor would like another mpreg recommendation, I would like to nominate the shounen series "Sabikui Bisco." I have no idea HOW it happens, I literally just tried to look up how tall one of the characters was and unwittingly walked into some kind of ship war happening on the wiki page where both sides were slinging spoilers, and thus accidentally discovered that the two male leads eventually have a child that they are the biological fathers of. Not sure if there was an actual pregnancy involved, but it's definitely something anyway. Also, as someone who reads the official release of the novels, those guys are EXTREMELY sappy towards each other, to the point where I honestly think the author would do a great job writing BL if he ever decides to branch out from Shounen. That said, the series is definitely in some murky water - the MCs aren't canonically in a romantic relationship, though one has used the word "love" to describe his feelings for the other multiple times, and there was an entire cult of lesbian assassins, as well as one guy who spent a decent chunk of volume 4 trying to convince one of the male leads to sleep with him, so it feels wrong to call it queer baiting...

Ah, another video like this! They're my favorites. I don't read novels or books because I have trouble processing some words and difficulty paying attention, it's as if I read and the words come out of my head, and yes that's only with books since with manhwas/manhuas I tend I can't remember words, at least I can memorize the drawings and pictures, so these types of videos summarizing and talking about important points from the books help me a lot in at least knowing a little about the story since I'll probably never read it. Also, people need to realize it's not beastiality for Pet Fish novel. The Prince genuinely loves his fish as a pet. He only falls in love with the boy... And later when he realizes the boy is his fish does he actually romantically love the boy and affectionately dotes on his fish more. 🥲💕 I just finished this volume and omg.... This story is so sweet and cute!!! I also want to recommend another danmei with the trope transmigrated into a fish which is 穿成锦鲤小夫郎, roughly translated as "transmigrated into a little carp husband". This is a mix between omegaverse and ancient chinese (It really has mpreg) and it's so good i hope it gets translated and licensed. This story just reminds me of that so i cant help but chime in ❤
