20 years ago, Radiohead took one of the biggest left-turns in history by releasing stepping away from rock music and making an experimental electronica record that completely changed the way music would be released.

Man I can not tell you how much I hated this album when it came out. I gave them one more chance with Amnesiac and that was even weirder so I put Radiohead aside for 10 years or so and somehow I heard a song from In Rainbows while listening to some music on You Tube and I loved it fast forward a few months and I was listening to them every day b-sides everything I could find, Now I can say they are my favorite band without a doubt and their music got me through a very dark time when my wife died at 48 suddenly the supposedly sad music was was not sad at all it was cathartic and helped me grieve when I could not I was still in shock and catatonic.I tell people that their music is not sad if you are sad already, but beautiful and changed my life in a meaningful way.

That was a beautiful review and aside from the loss of your wife (my sympathies) I too first hated these albums and yet learned to love them and they too got me thru a hard time. Brilliant band. Shalom y Salaam.

@@t.andrewhanes872 Thank you I found joy again mostly in my daughter ( who looks like her mother} she just graduated from college and is starting grad school in the fall. More importantly she is kind and fair and treats strangers and unpopular people with kindness and respect. Right now I am digging the Smile and I hope you enjoy the record as much as I am.

I had the opposite reaction - OK Computer needed time to grow on me so I told myself I wouldn't judge Kid A straight away but from the first bars of "Everything in it's right place" I got it instantly - I had been listening to a lot of things they were influenced by like the Warp label artists and Migus by then though

Damn man.. that is so sad yet so on the nose. This band has been somehow getting me through the hardest time of my life, with the rug pulled from under me and not knowing where or how hard I will fall. I listen to their music every fucking day.. and somehow I'm still here, not taking the easy way out just yet.

I love how the general summary when you listen to the development of each album is basically, 95% of the time Jonny is right. He’s a genius.

I just can't like it. I've tried and tried. There are songs I like on it, but some of the tracks use too much repetition. For instance, "everything..." says the title line too many times, for me. I think their best is "in rainbows" or "ok computer".

@@mikeking683 that's understandable, I think this is their best album to listen from front to back because there aren't many songs in it that could be singles I love the atmosphere, it's cold and dark, but sometimes cozy

This was a massive formative album for me. before this i had comparmentalized genres, nothing was alowed to mingle. after this is expanded my understanding of music. "everything in its right place" just knocked me off my feet and i was enthralled by the whole running time of the album.

I immediately liked this upon release. More daring and just as original as O.K. Computer. I was into bands such as Can previously so I took to this release upon first listen and repeated listens only got better. A truly progressive band.

I will happily admit to being profoundly disappointed when I first played this record. I vividly remember buying the record from my local “Fopp” store. ( it was a long time ago!). And it took me a long time to listen to this again. It wasn’t just me, all my colleagues were Radiohead nuts and we all felt the same sort of let down feeling. However what turned me was listening to the live version of national anthem where the radio becomes one of the instruments and I’m shamed to say I didn’t recognise it as Radiohead and thought my God that’s amazing. So I went back listen again with older and More forgiving ears. This thing is genius. Still prefer ok computer though!!

Thanks so much for the in-depth view. I've never been a big Radiohead fan but have always heard about how polarizing this particular record was.. Learning more about it and the circumstances it was created in has convinced me to give it a serious listen. Great video, I love it.

Fantastic video, thank you! I got into Readiohead when OK Computer was released and absorbed pretty much everything they had released up to that point (listening to OK Computer at least once a day for many months). I was so heavily in the space of 'Radiohead are basically my favourite band ever' at the point Kid A was released that, although certainly a change from their previous sound, I fell immediately in love with it. I was also heavily prepared for the change in direction after reading many articles on the band and the recording of this latest album, along with the final reviews, before I had even heard a single song from it. I knew it was going to be different so had already prepared myself for whatever was coming. OK Computer still ranks as one of my favourite albums of all time, but Kid A is certainly in my top 3 Radiohead albums to this day.

Why am I just finding this today? 😮 Really enjoyed the breakdown of each song. I took to Kid A like a cat to water, considering I'm a water cat year, really means I fell into it with sheer abandon. Kid A is a masterpiece.. " Cut the Kids in half " > while I been singing " put the Kid to bed ".😂 That's the kind of surprise I love from Radiohead lyrics , even after all these years. We're coming to a bend now,, changing down a gear > bends of different sorts have featured in Thoms lyrics. The Smile are another brilliant surprise for me, beautiful first album. ❤ Still optimistic about another Radiohead album some day.🙏🏻 Big up to Radiohead, the maker of this film & all you humAn beings.x 😻🍄🎵

KID A was the album where Radiohead really shifted through the gears of what it's like to be a rock band in the 21s century. And to say to brit pop "right thats over" The greatest 00s album of all time it's turned out to be.

I remember when this came out, I read a review of it in Q Magazine. The reviewer bitched about the nonsense lyrics, in particular the words "yesterday I woke up soaking animal" from Everything In Its Right Place. He was really dismissive and vitriolic about it which is funny because those aren't actually the words. That was around the time I stopped buying Q.

If Kid A is anything it is acquired taste, I like others hated Kid A and mostly stuck to OK Computer and The Bends until one day I got it and never let go same with all the other albums, what I hate about Radiohead is that ever since I listened to them I haven't stopped they are too good
