Despite announcing his retirement over a year ago, Kid Cudi is back a year later to have the best album of the year with his ninth studio album, ‘INSANO’.
Kid Cudi welcomes Zane Lowe into his new house to talk about his music comeback after pondering retirement. Kid Cudi admits that his friend and artistic inspiration, Brain Donnelly, better known as KAWS, played a huge role in his comeback, and the furniture in his new home. Kid Cudi also opens about his time in the music industry so far, his biggest musical inspirations, how turning 40 is changing his perspective, his relationship with Ye, and his thoughts on being a "hero."

I was a lost kid. A youngin bumping early cudi. My life was in shambles as a kid. He was there when no one else was. He taught me a lot. This new era of cudi was hard to understand. Then it clicked to me after this album. He’s in a better place. As a now 27 year old. So am I. It brings tears to my eyes remembering all of those hard times. It’s hard to stomach some of music he used to make because of what it represented for me. Triumph over tragedy. Don’t worry. God gotchu. I’m coming for that feature cudder. For anyone struggling, I promise there’s light at the end of the tunnel. Because I never thought I’d ever be alive to see it.

Cudi is such a private person sometimes its hard to know where his head at... but this interview alone shows that he isn't faking the funk about positivity, the joy he feels in his life, and the new direction he's taking... this just shines a whole new light on INSANO now, a whole new glow to it... beautiful... now everything makes sense, from the cover, to MOTR, to the music... Such a great interview, as someone who relates very strongly to cudis journey to where he is rn, just seeing him at peace and genuinely happy is a powerful thing to see fr. It’s honestly the most important thing to me as a fan of his music. This has been something cudis been fighting for his entire career. Each and every album from A Kid Named Cudi to INSANO shows you the journey he’s been on to this point. Just a random dude from Cleveland trying to make something different that spoke to him and his problems, got big, fell down a dark path, and no matter how hard it got for him, he still made it out to the other side. It’s truly something that speaks to me as I battle my own demons in my life. Cudi truly is the guide out of the darkness to the light and I’m just extremely happy he found peace INSANO is the victory lap. Just a big celebration with nothing but good vibes, lots of energy, and high spirits. Sure it might not be everyone’s favorite from cudi, or might not have hit you the same way his previous albums have but you can’t say that there wasn’t any love and care put into it

As someone who's 24 and feels like a kid at heart still, it made me emotional hearing Cud say it's okay to feel that way. I feel a pressure to grow up and to figure everything out right now, but I have no idea where life will even take me or what my purpose truly is. I know it's okay to think this way, but the world sometimes makes it seem like it's not. So hearing this was like it was directly to me, thank u Scott 🥹

Cudi, I appreciate this interview. A lot of critiquing being done by people who are stuck on the old you but in reality life doesn't stay the same we as people forever change and this is perfect. I haven't listened to the album all the way through but I came to the listen to this interview all the way through first to give myself a chance to hear your perspective. I love Man On The Moon 3 and Entergalic. A lot of people hate on those tapes, but truly I see so much growth within you as an artist and as a person. This really gives me courage to continue to be the best I can be within my own right. If anybody is reading this. Take time to think about what I am really saying. This isn't about likes, this is about giving our humans their flowers and being appreciative.

Insano will never be on the same level as Indicud. There’s nothing on Insano comparable to Immortal, Young Lady, Just What I Am, Unfuckwittable, Red Eye, Mad Solar, or even Cold Blooded. Personally, im not the biggest fan of the album but I do really like how the album came from a place of happiness from Cudi which we have not gotten in some time. Him also trying something new with the theme of the album being psychedelic trap is a great change of pace.

the album is garbage just sounds like the 10,000 other mid tier rappers albums. Nothing unique. It's travis like production with boring uninspired Cudi vocals. He "TRIED" to compete with the mainstream. That tells you everything you need to know. Zero pushing the boundaries or innovation.

Every Kid Cudi interview feels like therapy. He speaks directly from the soul, puts in on wax and even in interviews. I love cudi, Love from Abuja, Nigeria. I been listening to Cudi since my high school days a decade ago.

When he first debut in 2009 people thought he was a backpack rapper from the Blog era which i loved and missed but he definitely ushered in a new generation talking about mental health and the state of your happiness and ego all through his freedom of speech during this decade.

Great interview. Hilarious how he brought up Lupe, they're both my favorite modern day artists since highschool days. Would be great if they got along.
