Kid Cudi: "This song is about someone who is fed up with reality, who looks for thrills and excitement by any means. It's just kind of how I was feeling at that point. I was just so angry. Doing coke revived me, and knowing I was so close to death every time intrigued me. I liked the thought of it." So Mr. Rager was his escape from reality.

Ben Breedlove and his 2-part "This Is My Story" video chronicled his heart condition, how it ushered him into the afterlife on a few occasions, and how he returned. Ben eloquently described the satisfaction and peace he felt during those short trips to the other side. Kid CuDi, and this song apparently cameoed in the 2nd to last trip over. Sadly for those who loved Ben, the next trip 2 weeks later was one-way.

TW: I relate to this song so much. All of my thrills came from drugs and attempting because life got so hurtful and boring. I never thought I'd be 6 months clean from coke and other drugs. My ex tried to kill me when I was 16. He fed me drugs. He raped me repeatedly and threatened me if I ever told anyone about the abuse. So long after our relationship I continued some drugs because he got me addicted and it felt like I deserved it all and it was also like I said previously, for the thrill because the relationship had sent me into a deep depression. I'm 18 now and doing way better with an amazing boyfriend who treats me very well. But this song still hits and gives me the thrill I would have needed before with drugs.

I have loved kid cudi since he first started making mixtapes, he has a wonderful and artistic writing style, and in this strong has very strong symbolism of the devil as being "mr rager" and 'birds" as being people [incliding cudi] who want to follow an envious destructive path that sometimes musicians might create for themselves. Its still one of my favorite songs.
