Phase 1 Gorillaz just had a certain aesthetic and overall mood that wasn't replicated ever again. Is it the Cartoon-Network aesthetic? The zombie-hip-hop? The experimental music? Something I really like from the first Phase was Damon's voice was very experimental at the time. Phase 1 just had a certain magic to it man.
@rumham1899 Жыл бұрын
This comment is really late but i remember reading somewhere that damon's voice for 2d in phase 1 was vocoded or somewhat altered to an extent. That's why the first album has more of the "2d" sounding voice that appears less in the later records

So the real story of the song that this was song made by Dan The Automator that featured Damon Albarn and Mos Def, for an album that was shelved since Dan was moving labels, Kid Koala made this version, the original version is called Lonely Man (Ft. Damon Albarn). The fans dubbed it Routine which Kid Koala said himself that it was a stupid name. So yeah wished it was released officially because this song is the best Kid Koala/Gorillaz song ever.
@xheophesYT3 жыл бұрын
Didn’t he play it live a few years ago and called it routine anyway?

@@xheophesYT kzbin.info/www/bejne/pKq7l5eAiK12f8k "It has been bootlegged and uploaded in KZbin. They called it "Gorillaz Routine" which is a stupid name for a song". He didn't say that the name is Gorillaz Routine, just that people has been calling it that and Kid Koala just finds it as a stupid name. Some uploads like this one calls it Routine, Lonely Man, or Untitled. Officially there is no name for this song.

This song makes me feel things UgH. It reminds me of when you're up really late, and you just kinda lay there, staring at the ceiling and thinking over memories and your future. And you just have deep thoughts, while you just lay in the dark corner, continuing to stare at the ceiling. Just that kind of peacefulness but that sort of strange awareness that you get, just before you drift off to sleep. It's a comforting feeling, but it's also a but melancholy. Like, you're super tired so everything feels emotional,yet emotionless and vacant at the same time UgH

I feel like the title has a lot to do with the song itself. A routine is something you do over and over, the beat is repeated throughout the song, as well as that weird reverse sound. The song has a very weary tone, too, almost like this is the song that plays in the back of your mind as you do the same thing for the millionth time, dreaming of doing some different, and breaking out of the routine
@mixtapesfrommylatepartner3 жыл бұрын
The 'reverse' sound is the toggle on a keyboard being flicked between low, mid and high. It's sampled from Whitewater by Tortoise.

I remember back in 2020, the quarantine made me open up to meeting new people and I expanded so many interests thanks to it, I used to be a shy, immature and quite stupid kid. I rediscovered Gorillaz all over again and I was quite obsessed, thanks to this dumb little band I've found so many people and made so many great memories and I am forever grateful for it, this song along with "Mr. Softy's Balloon Race" mean so much to me, I love them both equally. It's really insane how fast time flies and how many people you get to meet during your life, really. I remember working with some guys in this fandom and that really changed me, I felt like I was a part of something and I was, I really was, we did all kinds of things from restoring old Gorillaz games to making our own fan projects and it was the most fun I've had in forever. Sadly it didn't last forever and people had to go, which is such a shame, but I am so glad I got to experience new things with them and make so many memories, I feel like it really changed me for the better. I know this fandom has a lot of toxic or weird people, but there's so many lovely ones as well, I swear, if you got to meet them you'd love them as much as I do. This song played during the last moments I remember from the place closing down and it does bring back a bit of some sad memories, but all the good ones are towering above them, I couldn't be more glad to hear this song again. I don't think I ever loved a band as much as this one before, seriously. And also, please make sure to check on your friends or people close to you from time to time, I'm sure they'd really appreciate that, and what I want to say to you, reader, is that I am so, so proud of you for getting this far and I'm so glad that you are still here, I hope you're doing good, and if you're not, then I hope you'll feel better soon, I love you.

This is a spring night song. You work night shifts and have to stay up late on your days off. Everyone else is asleep, things in your life are ending, school will be done soon, you're quitting your job, you're moving out of your parents house, your relationship is going through the back door. It's going to be a scary summer. And you don't know what you're gonna do. Your routine is ending
