Some movies are actually based on real life events and those movies DO make sure to include that little bit of sub-text in the opening so the audience is aware that what they're watching is something that did happen, the content of the movie might be shifted around a bit so it's not an exact 1/1 but the message is still there, such as for example Scream or more specifically the ORIGINAL Scream movie was entirely based on real life murders.

Hear me out, after Johnny was told to come back in 20 minutes, if during that time he had taken a PNC tablet, then he would've instantly realized how sketchy his current situation was and gotten the hell out of Dodge. Although PNC tablets don't exist, John still could've gone back to his car and gotten a dose of PNC the old-fashioned way. And even if he'd gotten arrested for public indecency and had to register as a s** offender, that still would've been a good outcome, because he'd still be alive.

I mean, I can understand going for either of that because sometimes guys pick up their dates at their houses, especially if it's a familiar location or a city with lots of people. But first the weird directions should have thrown him off, secondly the location should have thrown him again.
