So Toji took his own life because he didn't have control of his body. He was basically fighting off pure instinct and going after the strongest person near him, which was Megumi. When he came to his senses, he realized that that was his son and did the deed because he knew he couldn't stop fighting him and might kill him. His last words were, "So you took your mother's last name. I'm glad."

Toji ain't that bad of a dad, he sold his son because he had no hope of raising him on his own, as Toji knew that the only way to raise Megumi was alongside his wife who passed away, so he sold him to his side of the family, because he also knew that Megumi would've gotten treated way better than he got treated as Megumi had Cursed Energy and the family Technique. Also Toji killed himself because he wasn't in full control of his actions.

Some people have reading comprehension syndrome in replies i see. Toji wanted to forget about his son so he could stop caring for him and leave all his attachments behind, but as we saw in his last moments,TWICE, he cares for his son more than anyone. sure he isnt the best father but he still cared for his son,toji made sure megumi's future would be better, with or without him

Kinda crazy that Toji is actually a bit worse than CJ let on initially. Yeah, he forgot his son's name... but he also forgot he even had a son at all.😂
