These kids havn't been driving long enough to see all of the flaws in this idea. What about when I use my left hand to use my turn signal? What if I'm driving a manual? What if I'm performing a turn? Am I expected to keep both hands on the wheel for the WHOLE turn maneuver? What about when I put the car in park and am taking off my seat belt, is that siren going to blare until I turn my car off? What if I have an itch on my face? This seems like a very elementary idea that was only praised because it was a bunch of kids proposing it.

there are flaws to this but this is only a prototype, i sure once the cash goes in and the car companies steps in the game the will be tons more gesture to identify different gestures. I wouldn't be worried about driving manual because there are approximately less than 5% manual drivers out there in 2018.

This is a ridiculous product. I think it would cause more anxiety and is a liability. Imagine being so afraid to remove your hands while driving that you end up wrecking because you can't focus on your surroundings and just focus on the beeping light thing in the car that punishes you for not focusing on it for a brief second. There's no way a car company would want to be part of this lawsuit waiting to happen.

best thing to do is have the wheel not activate if you're below a certain speed so even if your hands arent on the wheel at least you aint dead when you hit the tree in front of you

Horrible idea. I've been driving for well over 40 years, and there are many times where I have had to take a hand off the wheel for situations such as putting on/shutting off the ac, heater, defrost, windshield wipers etc. Aside from that point, making the steering wheel turn different colors with a ringtone is not only NOT going to prevent unsafe driving without proper hand usage, but it's actually going to thrill the kids to keep doing it just to see the wheel perform its bells & whistles function.

I think is a great idea, here are some of the improvements that should be done 1- First you most set a delay of at least 5 second before it turn red and start sending signals, because as it was mention on the comments below, there are several situation that you need to remove one of the hand out of the wheel. 2- For a car that is manual, you just need to set the same configuration on the gear shift, that if you have one hand on the wheel and another on the gear shift, it should be green. (that is one of the situation you would need a delay) 3- A safety measure for those who are distracted, beside sending an alert to third party, you should also set a safety mechanism enable automaticaly the emergency light and lower the speed of the car, since it will lower the risk of deadly crash. But so far, you are doing good, just need some expert advice, to complete your project. Good luck

Another thing that you should add, is to dissable the notification when you are below 20miles, because a car might fully stop with just hitting the break, and to avoid hitting another vehicle or a person at that speed is setting a proximity sensor that enable the break. (need to set some criteria to that one also) to avoid the car set the break everytime you are close to an object, but I think this one goes beyond your project, but step by step you migh get a millionaire idea.

The worst law ever passed was the no texting while driving law. It is now responsible for multiple deaths on the highway. Before the law, people would text(or read a book) with it resting on the top part of steering wheel. While a driver can safely scan his rearview mirror, right or left traffic activity etc, he has one more item to scan, his phone. With this draconian law, drivers now lowered the device to their lap so it cannot be seen by enforcement where their eyes are now completely off the highway exposing the driver to those critical lost seconds resulting in multiple deaths. More laws attempting to control EVERY aspect of one's ACTIONS is not the answer. Wrecks have occurred from adjusting the radio. The further your eyes are from the windshield the more dangerous the driving becomes. That law results in eyes further from the windshield. This is just one example of many,many more. The solution is for people to stop whining and crying about these issues demanding MORE LAWS that will never, ever end. This is how a country develops into a Communist Utopian society where we will live in an ideal, safe environment as long as we pass more laws. It never works ,even after a full dictatorial govt is in place.People need to grow up and accept the risks of highway travel, it is legally known as "assumption of the risk". I would much prefer to live with that assumption then under a dictatorial communist regime.

Okay, first of all, I don't think you know how "likes" work on youtube, second, communism is an economic/government system that deals with sharing of wealth and property, and has literally nothing to do with texting or reading while driving. Third, if you think that it's bad that you have to look down at your phone and hide it, and you think the government is a big mean bully because they _make_ you _waste_ precious seconds doing it, then you're looking at it wrong. In fact, you shouldn't even be looking at it at all, that's _your_ choice to _put yourself in danger._ Maybe try *not texting while driving at all?* Finally, it doesn't matter where your phone is while you're texting, you don't have the same reaction time as someone driving in a humane and safe way. Is that enough of a contribution to the task at hand for you, oh exalted one?
