A rich, but lazy bear is outsmarted by Hare-his clever, hungry, and industrious neighbor. Hare offers the bear a choice of the tops or the bottoms of vegetables he will grow, in exchange for using the bear's land. In the end, the bear learns he must plant his own crops if he is to get ahead in the world.
