That's one of the things I love the most about kids in the hall. On some level every sketch is about this idea of the strangeness of human connection, so even in bizarre scenarios like these you still end up caring for these characters and their relationships. Another great example is the "Can I Keep Him" sketch, it's such a surreal premise but by the end you're genuinely emotionally invested

This sketch came out the same year as Naked Gun 33 1/3 which featured a very similar scene where Jane is leaving Frank and is getting dressed, calling a taxi, dedicating a song to him from the taxi, etc. ridiculously fast. Odd.
