My heart is so incredibly heavy for Shari. I'm sure she told you she's gonna be fine (and she will be, she's such a strong, resilient person!) but having a home and loving family nearby is just sooo important, helpful, stabilizing, healing. I totally vote for Shari to move with you! I know BYU is "the place to be" as an lds student, but I'm convinced she would be able to follow her path, no matter where ❤

That’s hard leaving Shari since it’s felt like you’ve adopted her into your family since her immediate family is not a good place to be. It’s only 2 years and she’s busy at college so she does have a place to live! She can come visit during the summer and on breaks!! Good luck!!

While that would be cool, its time that Shari gets to just be Shari and not an extra set of hands helping around the house (like she was growing up). She needs time to be herself. And if she leaves, there goes the discount she is getting on her college education. She is getting a discount already for being part of the LDS church but on top of it, she is getting something like a 50% discount because her dad works at BYU. It would be really hard to up and move to another university when she could stay put and leave without a huge amount of college debt.

If i had to chose solely based on location I would choose South Carolina. My aunt lives in Columbia and it's very nice, she lives right on a lake which is beautiful and it's also only about a 2 hour drive if you want to have a beach day! The weather is great and the people are nice.

My nephew is a Senior at Univ SC! He is a TRUE GAMECOCK!! Haha I live in North Carolina and a lot of my childhood was spent in SC!! There are SO many beautiful beaches!! I know you guys would Love it!!!

Great seeing Shari and she looks so great! Columbia is my pick. Hurricanes slam into the coast, and generally lose steam as soon as it goes inland. How fun to go somewhere where you have never been. We will have you talking southern in no time! YA'LLL!!!!!

We hardly get hurricane weather in Columbia :) you can fly Breeze airways from Charleston straight to Provo for like $90 (? Depending on the time of year). Columbia is about 2 hours from anywhere in the state- mountains or beach! It’s a very historical state so there is a lot of learning to be done. We also have a national park ;) the church isn’t as large as the west but it is super strong and has some of the sweetest people you’ll meet. I have also spent a lot of time in KC. There are a lot of pros for KC. But I just love SC so much. Slow pace of life and the opportunity to live in a country feel town with the amenities of the city close by :)

And you KNOW when a hurricane is coming and can prepare to either move inland for safety or prepare for the event. And they are rare events! There's little time to seek safety with a tornado.

As someone who was born and raised in Kansas City, I think it is the best place to grow up and have a family. I live out of state now but will be moving back as soon as I start a family because my heart is in KC. I know it doesn’t sound or seem as fun because of the location but I think you absolutely wouldn’t regret it!

You can tell Landon is much more excited about the research opportunities in KS rather than the public health stuff in SC. And based on the interesting work that he's already done in Bikman's lab, I think KS aligns more with that. If he follows his heart I think you'll end up in KS even though no one ever wants to move to the middle of the country. Believe me, I know, lol I won't be too far from you in Omaha, Nebraska.

SC is a good one. And the hurricanes aren't too bad. Once they hit land yes they're still bad but it could be just rain. My family has moved from Central PA to Central Virginia and Columbia is about a 5hr drive. So not too bad if ya miss mountains you're not too far from them

LSU Grad here, very familiar with Pennington, very interesting facility. Had a friend do a few studies for money. I loved LSU, still live in South Louisiana (Destrehan) but can definitely see not living in Baton Rouge for a myriad of reasons, but you can't beat the food down here!

I was born and raised in Florida and just moved to Virginia. The good thing about hurricanes vs tornadoes is you get to prepare for a hurricane weeks/ days in advance. You don't get that time for a tornado.

I live on the coast in SC. You're far inland enough to not worry about the hurricanes. You have lakes to have fun at in Columbia. You're close to Charlotte and close to the beach.

I've also googled the safest states to live, then the safest cities within those states. Also, the weather is something I've looked at as well. OMG! We grew up in Louisiana with the fireflies and catching them in jars when we would sleep at my grandma & grandpa's house when we were kids. :) Good memories.

If you go to South Carolina, you could visit the 1,000 year old oak trees. There are tons of waterfalls and nature trails and the winters are so mild and the summers aren't bad as long as you have a lake or river or pool to swim in.

I'm on the east coast. I agree with South Carolina because you have pretty quick access to all of the states. one of the trains can literally take you anywhere up or down the coast. Philadelphia. New York City. All great cities to visit. I think you hit new territory for a few years and then go back when he is done.

I just visited Columbia, SC! Went as I had to accompany my step grandfather to his last living brother’s funeral. But my GOSH was Columbia really lovely! Our hotel, I miss sitting outside and watching all the birds in this little nature area, secluded. But you were also right there at a mall and shopping centers. Stoner’s Pizza Joint is GREAT!

From a viewer I think you're leaning towards SC including Landon. I think you've got to go with what he feels most passionate about researching. Weather wise I'd go with SC. You're blessed with Facetime to keep up with family, a blessing I didn't have in '76 when I immigrated with parents and a brother as a pre teen.

You don’t really have to worry about hurricanes in Columbia I love in Lexington right next to it. We are far enough inland that we just get the rain and some wind. It’s a great place! I would be over the moon if you guys moved out here and if your family visits!

You are like a military family, lots of uncertainty of where you'll be every few years. We moved so much, the older we got, the harder it was. I was 14 the 2nd to the last time we moved, started high school and everyone was so cliquey in the town we moved to. We lived there one year, and my parents moved us one last time to a place about an hour away where we were able to make friends and fit in better, there was a lot of teen drinking and partying in the first town. Honestly, as fun as South Carolina sounds, KCKS sound like more options for career choices later on. I can't even imagine how difficult this decision is. I'm sure you'll make the right choice with God leading the way.

We have lived in SC since 2001 and have made it our forever home. It is the best state! You won’t get a ton of hurricane weather in Columbia - just rain and the occasional tornado. We live in the upstate(right below NC and nest to GA) on lake keowee. The lakes up here are nestled in the blue ridge mountains and there are too many waterfall hikes to name. Lake jocasee is incredibly beautiful and the water is so clear and blue. It’s truly some of the most beautiful scenery. We have also lived in Greenville, SC which is one of the best cities in the south. The coast is fun, too-Charleston, Isle of Palms, Folly Beach, Edisto.

I love Columbia, SC! I used to live in the low country near Hilton Head Island. It’s so rich in history and the beaches are nice too. Not too far from Savannah, not too far from Charleston. I’m Beaufort County, SC, there are a ton of carriage tours etc because the history goes way back to revolutionary war times. 😊

I live in Greenville, SC and feel like we have a lot of stuff that's not too far. we have the beach a few hours away as well as the mountains in Tennessee only a few hours away. You would love South Carolina I am two hours from Columbia. I’ve also lived in Hartsville South Carolina, where I was born. The people here are very friendly. I live near Clemson University, which is a rival to the University of South Carolina. Both schools are great. My daughter has friends, who went to both ? She is a graduate of Clemson and also has her PhD in molecular biology from Wake Forest University, but either way, I’m excited for your new adventure
