Trains at Filton Abbey Wood, GWML - 08/01/23

Welcome to the latest episode of Spotting! Today I am at Filton Abbey Wood located on the GWML section between Bristol Temple Meads and Swindon via Bristol Parkway! Services are seen by Great Western Railway and CrossCountry.
A great station to film at, Filton Abbey Wood always provides a frequent set of services every hour of every day - in this instance I filmed on a Sunday, the day after the most recent RMT Union strikes on 7th January. Despite the disruption the day before, Filton Abbey Wood did not disappoint and it was a lovely session here.

Update on class 43 castle. They will be partly withdrawn in December and some sets will remain until December 2024

Lovely video Kieran!! Some excellent variety there at a good station!! I have noticed filming at Truro today that there seems to be more 5 car IETs operating regional services, the one i was on stopped at Menheniot, St Budeaux and Devonport. I think GWR might be using their 387s as cover on Cardiff to London services in the future to free up some more IETs

Thanks mate - funnily enough that isn't the case with the 387s so I am told. As far as I know so far, IETs will be taking over Cardiff to Penzance once the HSTs are stood down from December of this year. GWR believe they have enough IETs to cover what they need, so expect some short formed services to Paddington I reckon!
