Carmine is genuinely the worst. My biggest complaint is that she never truly gets comeuppance for it.

literally this. I was crying pretty well the entire second half of the dlc it felt so unfair. I wanted to be close with Kieran not Carmine, I was so mad when I was forced to lie and keep lying, and catching Ogerpon wasnt even like "yay new legendary" it was like "do I REALLY need to do this and literally right in front of him? he never even had a chance to bond with Ogerpon bc of people hiding everything from him it wasnt fair at all. she only shy'd away from him bc of the loyal 3's energy lingering on him from the shrine imo. Kieran deserved so much better man.

I love how the music shows his evolution. The first theme is happy, with a few parts sounding a bit sinister like 0:06 or 0:19. His main melody, played on a violin at 0:34, sounds really soft, it sounds almost lower than the percussion (this can be noticed better at 0:13). At this point Kieran is trying to say what he thinks, but nobody hears him. The second theme starts at 0:58, and it immediately loses every inch of happiness it had before. It adds an electric guitar, in contrast with the violin. Both are string instruments, but one is calm and soft while the other is just unnatural and brutal. At 1:15 the violin repeats the main melody, but this time very clearly. Kieran is now saying what he thinks and nobody is going to ignore him. And then, at 1:38, he snaps and starts playing his theme using the electric guitar. He is *yelling* his thoughts. And it extends the melody at 1:50. This time nothing is going to interrupt him. The song ends at 2:13, and his champion theme starts exactly with that part. It literally starts saying "the old Kieran has ended". At 2:30 the electric guitar appears again, louder than ever, but it's not playing any melody. While before Kieran was yelling what he wanted, now he is just yelling with anger. He has forgotten the reason he wanted to defeat you in the first place. The violin comes back at 2:43 but, just like the guitar, there isn't any melody we've seen before. I also want to add that this theme actually starts with a violin solo that sounds taken from a horror movie. A piano appears at 2:59, which we have seen before representing insanity in characters like Rosse or Volo. At 3:09 the violin finally plays his theme, only to be interrupted again by the electric guitar at 3:21. This time it's not his shyness or Carmine that stops him from expressing himself, it's himself who is suppressing his past self. At 3:34 it plays another one of his melodies, but it's just electric sounds. If the electric guitar was unnatural in comparison to the violin, this is on another level. The evolution of the music is just as good as Kieran's evolution.

What an analysis! Great job breaking it down!! Gamefreak doesn’t get enough credit for their musical story telling. You get Kieran’s whole arc just through his themes. Especially if you include his non battle themes
