So thrilled you talked about Kieślowski, RMB. I got the opportunity to visit Warsaw a few years ago and made sure to seek out his grave just so I could quietly thank the man for the art he's added to my life. Walking around the apartment complex from Dekalog (it's still there!) was also a fantastic experience, even if it looks quite a bit different these days. For those who may be unfamiliar with his work, definitely check out Blind Chance, Camera Buff and A Short Film about Killing (expands on Dekalog 5) as well. Like you, I love genre films and will happily dive into the fantasy realms of LotR, Star Wars and Star Trek but that shouldn't preclude a well-rounded and robust diet of foreign, indie and avant garde cinema. There is so much out there from the last hundred years of this art. Even if you feel modern movies don't have as much to offer or storytelling has gone off the rails, the rich history of cinema has so much to offer if you're willing to seek it out.

Great video! And thank you for shining the spotlight on Kieślowski! I had discovered the THREE COLORS trilogy in the late 90's because of my love of Julie Delpy! And I was blown away. I like to revisit them every few years because they resonate every single time, and sometimes in a slightly different way than previous viewings. Just upgraded to the 4K versions. And I'd never seen DEKOLOG, but just picked it up on the most recent Criterion sale, so I think that'll have to be my deep dive to close out this year! Keep doing your thing, my friend!

Thank You Rob! You've convinced me to check out both The Decalogue and The Three Colors Trilogy over this Christmas Week!! I came to know of it through Edgar Wright's Cornetto Trilogy's names' homage, but you've given me the impetus to finally see these :D Long time listener from India, and a big Fan of Yours! Happy Holidays 😁

Juliette Binoche and Irene Jacob are immortal beauties. Blue and Red are timeless masterpieces. White is a 7/10 for me. Kieslowski is a poet in direction just like Bergman and Ozu.

Thanks so much for bringing attention to this amazing set of films. I first saw this in college, when the film society imported prints in the late 90's. Never forgot them. Bought the Criterion Box set (of course). But when I received an Apple Vision Pro from work - I rewatched on the *simulated* massive cinema screen. Intimate films that nevertheless benefit from being seen on the largest screen possible. Keep banging the drum for true cinema.

I saw the three colors trilogy in theaters when I was a young man. I don't remember much of it, I almost remember none of it, but feeling of fondness for it lingers and it warms my heart trying to remember.

Well, I was a kiddo in '94 and I remember when Red was a front runner to Cannes Palme d'Or. And the hype in Poland in this time. Commentators in TV and newspapers were more than little upset when this young US director win with his silly criminal :) Decades has passed and 3 Colors are known by near to nobody in clear opposite to Pulp Fiction. I myself was watching it so fare ago I barely remember it. Speaking of movie perception. Some time ago you sir bring up another polish classic "Seksmisja" in discussion on JCS. You voiced your concerns if movie like this will be remembered or will be forgotten forever. I'm coming with words of comfort for you, Rob. This 1984 movie is cult classic s-f comedy in counties on this side of iron-curtain. Quotes from this movie went into common polish language. So worry you not. Here in Poland, it is much more known than very respected Kieślowskis work, as every pop-movie do, despite a country or continent.

The first 30 mins of this Robservations is essentially my life, except my Mum was tuned into my interests a bit more - she was a huge Dennis Wheatley fan - a very quiet, beautiful woman who happened to collect books about Satanic shenanigans! But I was a WOTWs fan - loved George Pal's film. Loved Kraftwerk when I was 10, Tomita, Vangelis, I also loved Erich Von Daniken and Charles Berlitz. I loved sci-fi and spooky stuff and Synth music & movies and had posters of Bogart & Groucho Marx on my wall. It has taken me a long time to find a home. Rob you are my spirit animal.

Bruh, I picked up Shinya Tsukamoto's 'Shadow of Fire' last week, I love Tetsuo I, II and Tokyo Fist. Vital is also cool, Bullet Ballet and Snake of June are a little underwhelming and I think he made Tetsuo III just so people would stop asking him to. Shadow of Fire is top-tier. Do you remember when Tetsuo came out? 'Cronenberg meets Lynch' was the hype, upon which it delivered, and in the Nottingham arthouse cinema they showed it with the no-budget dragster monster movie 'Red and Rosy' (available on KZbin) to make up the running time. Tetsuo 1, 2 and Tokyo Fist make a strange and stunning trilogy. Tetsuo II though. Remember when Blade 3 ripped off the action scene chasing the villain to the roof where they're menacingly holding a child? Very different outcomes. Also a killer post-credit sting. Anyway, 'Shadow of Fire', awesome film. Now I have to see the rest of his '(anti-)war trilogy', and the others I've missed.

@YouBetterBelieveIt Yes, some of us probably do. I have a busy life. I'm a father, I'm in the military, and I don't have much free time to check in as often as I'd like. I can't hang on every word of every show. And here I thought this community was helpful. Only two people respond and only then to give me grief, and neither answered my simple question.

Have some pride in your craft. Respect your audience. When you promote an author, or title, at least take a moment to spell out Your reference or leave a proper link. So hard to tease value out of gushing formless rambling. I spent 1/2 hour meandering poor spellings and bad sites for Alvaro Zinos-Amaro and the novel, Equimedian. Your welcome.

The last THREE robservations COMBINED have not equaled even HALF the run time of your 16 hour stream. You violated the trust of your audience by setting a standard that you are woefully incapable of upholding. Very disapointed and hurt by this betrayal.

@loganastrup6870 i subscribed to this channel after watching this content creator do a 16 hour live stream and since then every show he fails to even produce 20% of what was initially promised. This is what's known in the industry as a bait and switch and I WILL NOT STAY SILENT
@loganastrup6870Ай бұрын
@@SUPREMELEGEND you’re probably trolling but in case you’re not, Rob did that 16 hour show as a special for his 1000th episode cause 1000 minutes is roughly 16 hours. That’s not a regular thing. He usually does about 90 to 120 minute streams. Your expectations are crazy. Also don’t like your own comments. It’s lame.
