Oh yes, I know all about the worn out spreaders and their issues. Since all we do is one field at a time that's our only option. I just go through it before I take it in the field and grease it up and check the tension. The only time I really had an issue was when a gearbox on one side was going out that I didn't catch.... tiger striped that whole field... lol you would love a hot washer! I know their more money, but the time and energy you save with one is unbelievable. I used to do the same thing, pretreat everything then hit it with the soap nozzle with degreaser then wash it all down. Now I just fire it up and wash the dusty stuff until it gets hot and have at it! It literally cuts the grease and oil off. I still can't figure out how we went so long without on. Oh, and washing the baler, (I know you don't use yours too often but) it makes getting the chains clean so much easier it's not even funny. The amount of time I used to spend degreasing those chains and chemical I used was terrible! It would take me about 3-4 hours just on the baler. With a hot washer, 30-45 minutes max. I'm a big fan of it, that for sure! Lol

I have always believed oil and filters are the cheapest maintenance you can do. Keeping it clean so dust and dirt don't build up also helps extend the life of your equipment.

+Mark Mortensen I had one on the ground catching it, but it does get on the pallet. I wash the motor every oil change with degreaser, so rinsing the pallet is no big deal. Thanks for watching and commenting

Just curious Scott, why don't you use the large filter instead of the stubby? Wouldn't synthetic oil help the gum problem?
@NorthTexasHay7 жыл бұрын
Shawn Newberry didn't know they made one bigger, the oil comes out pretty nice if I change it with less than a hundred hours. I asked the guy I bought it from about synthetic and he said not to use it but I can't remember why. I have to order some parts soon and I'll ask
@shawnnewberry53207 жыл бұрын
Got a couple of Briggs part numbers on the high capacity filters. Couldn't catch the P/N on the filter your using, but look at a 1719168YP or 696854. I have a JD Z445 with a Briggs 23. I have switched to NAPA filter because of a price break. Also you might find Valvoline Durablend keeps the insides cleaner. We raced Briggs engines and it seemed to have an advantage on the wear end. We use full synthetic now.

Hi guys, greetings from Australia, love your channel. Like the look of that pump set up, would be great for our operation too, what make/type of pump is it, if I might ask? How many HP is the vanguard motor? Keep up the good work!
@NorthTexasHay7 жыл бұрын
Luke B thank you for watching. It's classified as a forest fire pump and the actual pump portion is a Gorman rupp
@injectorrick37007 жыл бұрын
Looks like it said 23 horse on filter housing.
@Zomsky7 жыл бұрын
InjectorRick thanks for that, I just watched again and noticed that too. I have a couple of 23HP vanguards so all I need is to source that pump
@NorthTexasHay7 жыл бұрын
+Luke B it's a 23 hp vanguard with a Gorman rupp centrifugal pump. It also has an auto shut off pressure switch that shuts the motor down when the reel finishes.
@NorthTexasHay7 жыл бұрын
+Luke B it's considered a forest fire pump. If you look them up you can probably piece one together cheaper than I bought these

Just an idea but pickup salt spreaders can spread fertilizer too. My 2.5 yard spreader new was $5800 and is all electric. 5 yard should be 7k new. Just an out of the box idea.

My dealer gave me the idea when I bought my western tornado spreader. My thought was someone like you could mount it on some old running gear with flotation tires. I have a poly box and everything else is stainless except for the drag chain. Just keep it oiled really well when you put it up. The whole spreader only uses 80 amps max so the alternator keeps up with the spreader. You would have to calibrate it yourself, but would not be hard.

How thirsty is the engine i thought a diesel would save you a lot of money ,i run a small 12hp diesel with a mono screw pump they can lift water extremely high and long distances, it runs 12 knockers about 30 metres spray each under 1 litre a hour
@NorthTexasHay6 жыл бұрын
Where can I look at one online
@bigears44266 жыл бұрын
North Texas Hay www.mono-pumps.com you can buy these with a diesel yanmar liquid cooled engine with centrifugal clutch , you use different pulley sizes depending on horsepower and lift required. Mine runs max speed 1840rpm and engine at 1500rpm so they don't work hard, my problem is normally to much water as they are direct displacement and will build up high pressure if restricted
@injectorrick37007 жыл бұрын
Can't believe after all these years they don't make those engines at least 2 quart capacity. There is a car filter that fits those engines where you could use 1 1/2 quarts. Just can't remember which car. Synthetic is the way to go because yer cookin the oil. Syn doesn't cook like that. I'm sure you know this. We used Amsoil in the Corvette and could actually run the engine one additional year because of no wear and tear on the internals. "Keep on Balin"
