I just love this guy. His kata is excellent and he is true Shotokan with long strong stances. He also conveys his lessons so well.

This guy explains karate very well. Choreographing doesn't have to be just the way everyone would like just to get across a point. It seems there is an excess of mouth warriors in this world who inflate their own egos by making needlessly disparaging comments of the hard work of others.

wow I would like to see you guys take the time to make a so called "Better" instructional video then. Leave this guy alone. I appreciate that he took the time to make this video to help others. If you know a better way then make your own video and leave him alone. I would like to see you people try to study karate in another language like I am and having this as one a few resources in English to help you study.

A question for you experts: what good is training these one-step fixed pair techniques? What exactly does it train or develop? We all know that these static and cooperating attacks are not real... so train defense against a linear artificial only-karate-dojo attack... explain please!
@kevionrogers26056 жыл бұрын
I will disagree that it is not useful. What it does is introduce in a safe manner reaction drills. What I will safe is that when it is first learned each role needs to be slowed, so that follow through and target precision can be done without injuring the training partner. Then once that is done the defense is done. This drill came into karate from fencing as does the point fighting of stopping after each point is scored, so to get a better understanding of it studying fencing and kendo training methodology. Retreating (stepping back) to defend teaches right of way, using time, measure, and distance for defense.

What is the name of this teacher (sensei) ?? where is he from? very good this class, congratulations !!

Other than being basic budo, its natural movement. Heel first allows forward motion to continue, toe first acts as a brake, and stops forward motion, thereby interfering with one's "ki". And its just natural and is why people walk heel first instead of toe first.

If one should make an instructional video, it should be CORRECT, and this video does NOT show CORRECT SKIF Kihon Ippon Kumite.
@gojuryukarateka12 жыл бұрын
Your comment makes no sense. The reason I critiqued and criticized this video is so people like you, who are looking for videos for reference, do not mimic the bad techniques represented here. As for learning martial arts in a language other than your mother tongue, I trained in Japan for 30+ years and understand the difficulties. After a few years the language barrier disappears.

Very useful site , the slight differences in styles should be accepted as such and use the instructional videos as a guide not definitive fact. Your own Sensei at your club should be the one who drills in the basics. NOT youtube. Remember no one is perfect there is always room for improvement , just video yourself performing some of the most basic techniques and you will see what I mean. KC

I noticed this too. He pulls his foot back before he moves, thereby shortening his attack and slowing his technique. I was going to comment, but the so-called "sensei" is so bad I only commented on his lack of understanding basic concepts of budo and the need to land and move heel first, not toe first like a ballerina.

My goodness, that's a poor performance. The complete body structure of both opponents is not correct. The execution of the technique has nothing to do with karate. The center of gravity is not used here because there is a lack of understanding. The movements comes exclusively from the extremities. No hara! ....
@UnderCoverInc12 жыл бұрын
you are correct. this is not ippon kumite, its a joke!

It is a joke. This guy doesn't understand fundamental budo as he lands toe first after he kicks and when he advances forward. You must always land and move heel first. Always. If you do not know this you should not be pretending to be a teacher.
@vladturbin75783 жыл бұрын
But it is the way techniques are taught and done in Shotokan: toe moves ans lands first. Heel landing considered to be wrong. All top Shotokan instructors do and teach that way. Nobody explains, why. It has no sense from the real street fight point of view, it decreases effectiveness. But it has a big sense from the safety of training, because landing a heel first sooner or later will occur on your partner foot, and will cause his bones fractures. A good thing in real fight, and very bad if done to the training partners. It is a compromise, as well as not using fumikomi kicks and spearhand strikes in kumite and competitions...
