I have the pleasure to sit with the brilliant Bruno Putzeys from Hypex Audio fame. It's no secret that he truly broke ground to make Class D amplification mainstream within the HiFi community.

Those last couple of minutes really put a smile on my face. Chapeau, Bruno. As a VERY Happy purifi (eval 1)amplifier customer, this was an hour and a bit well spent. Those new products, bring them on!

The way I see it this amp module will revolutionise audio as it has been known it throughout my lifetime. Tubes, class ab, class a, it all seems a bit silly now. I realize that the audiophiles who spend thousands on cables, spend time swapping tubes, and hours listening to their old records will be a tough crowd. But this amp is on another level. It's that irresistible force that should wake up all but the most religious.

That was a great, really informative, well done interview Jason. Starting at the beginning and moving through the chapters in Bruno’s career was, well, rational :-) And of course it was not only the chronology but hearing the reasons things unfolded as they did tied everything together. I had only heard of the famous Bruno Putzeys and now I appreciate knowing more about where Hypex, Purifi and Kii are coming from. Thank you for sharing, Bruno. Finally I must say that it is not the norm for either the interviewer or interviewee to not step on the other’s sentences so it is notable that you didn’t. This was a very natural, easy to listen to chat. Thank you both!

Met Bruno in 2006, I made a video of him doing a presentation to "ETF06" with a Sony Camcorder on a tripod. What struck me was his accent, note that it is not American but more British. He was the only one who was there who talked like that. He still talks like that, as you can hear.

Love the insight that Putzey provides. Star level thinker, designer, builder and visionary.

Good attitudes he brings towards the end there. It seems that people who REALLY know their stuff and have something to point to in the real world do not fit into the trenches of various forums.

I belonged to that forum once upon a time, he is correct not only that be he was actually the author of that sub forum it was different back then but at the same time do understand this, he was more open to share and exchange ideas that obviously changed when he went commercial that very forum also propelled Hypex and him to a degree.

Great interview, I could spend hours listening to Bruno speak between past and future.

Very entertaining episode with Buno Puzey who Is a very nice, interesting and modest gentleman destined to be revered and immortalised along with likes of all my other favourite audio designers/electrical engineers like: Bob Carver, Dan D’agostino, Nelson Pass, Hiroyasu Kondo, Alan Wright, Bascom King, Nori Komuro and Joe Rasmussen to name but a few. Bruno has achieved so much in his time that I cannot wait to see what he does next. I would love to have him over for a few bottles of red wine and cheese board with a few of my HiFi/Audiophile mates to chew the fat - if ever he finds time and is in Sydney Australia. I'm saving up for some PURIFI drivers to upgrade my Elsinore speakers. Thank you, Bruno for taking time out to share your life and professional experiences with us in this great interview.

Was so excited about hearing this great engineer speak for over an hour. Sadly, I feel it wasn't time well spent. I can think of a more exciting line of questioning to make these interviews come through... Just my humble opinion for what it's worth.

Bruno is a very talented analog designer he has almost alien mathematical understanding of control theory. I wish he taught subject matter what he knows.

There exist master programs that teach what he does! Control engineering does exactly that actually. The thing is, audio covers a very wide band of fields. Acoustics, mechanics and electronics. Even within the field, it's impossible to know everything (even for people as smart as he is).To give some example, he uses a model to estimate the excursion of the drivers (to minimise the audibility of the distortion the woofers create at high distortion levels), this is pretty much pure control theory. However the dispersion control is pretty much pure signal processing, both are dedicated master tracks in a lot of universities. A lot of the technologies he uses are well know in the industrial side (i.e. the controlled dispersion is basicly a form of adaptive array processing which is widely used in RF and medical imaging applications, current driven actuators is the norm for positioning systems like CNC machines and robot arms). That being said, the techniques are anything but trivial. However Bruno is not alone, there are many more engineers working for Kii, Bruno is just the face of the company. Though I do admit that Bruno is imensely smart in coming up with unique architectures of switching amplifiers. This is only possible BECAUSE he understands the math and the components so well. He's incredibly good at translating circuits to control systems frameworks and backwards. The reason why Bruno's products are so futuristic is because audio industry is just incredibly conservative when it comes to new technology.

Well …this could be good interview if questions are about audio , but not political ones. Would you build a speakers? Would you make dsp? Common… If better host will run this it could ask how things works , is SINAD most relevant thing , do use of different passive components change sound but it can’t show on measurement? Such a waste of time , because the guy is genius. Also sound on that podcast is pretty bad, you could at least match audio levels.
