A great Hammond C3 player at that time ,like what Keith Emerson played,kind of crisper piercing percussive attack tone which gave it away besides the console design. RIP JOIE & KEITH two great ones.

Mclaughlin is constantly smiling. I'm not sure if he had ever heard a keyboard player play such a complex and spot on bass line while going crazy with the right hand.

One of my all time favorite trios. Sometimes I put background music on while working on other things. I have a hard time with these guys though because I can't help but just stop and listen.

Fabulous. Had the privilege to see this concert in Brussels. First row. They played in a cinema, so no stage. They where just playing there at a couple of meters. What a blessing 😍 That was just incredible. 🙏🙏🙏.

@@Angelo_Botta That's what I thought. I saw them in Fabrik. As much as it is nice to have this video it always meant you wouldn't see much in front of the stage when NDR was there. So then I was a little annoyed but now a appreciate the farsightedness of the responsible guys in NDR. Also, the fun thing was that the bass was played by the feet of Joey (who died this year, R.I.P.) on the Hammond!

THIS! I had a bootleg VHS of this in the '90s that went missing at least a dozen years ago and here it is finally on KZbin! YAY! Plus this video and audio is waaaaay sharper than mine ever was. Ah this is like reuniting with an old friend!

Although I WOULD ADD that -- in his COMPLETELY different style, Pat Metheny, at speed, CAN give the brilliant McLaughlin a run for his money. (Cf Metheny playing with John Scofield -- and the amazingly talented Bill Brewer on drums -- the studio (video'd) version of EVERYBODY'S PARTY: it's WAY out into interstellar space!!

I think Dennis Chambers is a better compliment to McLaughlin's playing than Elvin Jones. They're from the same time period in music history so Dennis Chambers has a little more of that modern sound that McLaughlin really needs behind him.

After this brilliant concert the two played with Elvin Jones in 1996.. check that one out. Somewhere along the line Dennis Chambers has heard Mr. Jones and in this concert he plays a tribute to the master

I saw Elvin Jones playing live (Jazz Jamboree, late 60-s or early 70-s in Warsaw). As good as he was perceived to be at that time, he showed more circus tricks and extravagant fashion, than the real, honest jazz drumming. I watched many videos with Denis on drums and I cannot recall a single one where he was faking. If anyone gives 100% every single time, that would be Dennis Chambers, hands down...
