Kilchurn Castle. Loch Awe. Scotland. Captured by drone.

Kilchurn Castle was built in the mid-1400s,
and it remained the base of the mighty Campbells of Glenorchy for 150 years.
After the Jacobite Rising of 1680, Kilchurn was converted into a garrison stronghold but was abandoned by the end of the 1700s.
Looking out over Loch Awe, Kilchurn Castle is one of the most photographed castles in Scotland.

Another fantastic subject. I wonder, do ou wake up and say "what castle shall I fly today?" - I dont have any castles. Doesn't seems fair somehow, does it? I do have the Grand Canyon but a) Its a National Park, drones are prohibited. b) I could launch and land from outside the park - assuming I have the range, but c) it's 3482.62 kilometers away. See? Not fair. Ahh well. Therein lies the beauty of KZbin. I can fly those Scottish masterpieces vicariously through your extraordinary flying! Truly one of the greatest castles in all of Scotland, from where my mother hailed, 13th child of John & Ann McCreadie of Bothwell.

These videos are fabulous. Not sure if this channel has covered Bothwell castle (yet😀). It’s just 15mins drive from me and I’ve seen at least one drone video over it and nearby Blantyre.

@@TerryMcGearyScotland That's one I would dearly like to see. My personal quest here where the North Carolina Coastline is 2-3 hours from me is the 9 Historic Outer Banks lighthouses. They are all under the Purview of a Historical National Park, meaning all drone flights must take off and land outside park borders. It's achievable, but requires meticulous planning, portable charging, and many batteries. My biggest drone, Mavic 3 Pro has 8 batteries, but flight times are best on Air 3. I'll do it at some point, and hopefully not have a forced landing where I can't retrieve it without some trouble.

It's an amazing place, often stayed in the Forestry cabins for holidays an took a boat out to the old castle. At one time you could climb to the top and walk the walls.
