It shifts best at WOT. If you look at the 1-2 shift in the video, it's pretty good. I let off for 2-3 so the shift was sluggish. If you want to see a firm 2-3 shift, check out the video link below. I'm pretty happy with it considering it's typical 4 speed auto technology. Thanks for watching! kzbin.info/www/bejne/a3i9gJaGbpKtqNU

It's because all of the sticks do nothing to the transmission. At all. All they do is push the gear lever forward one notch. The same thing as pulling your regular shifter into low and using your hand to push the same shifter handle up to 2nd. It's the exact same thing except instead of pushing the shifter handle up one, you pull a separate stick which is mechanically linked to the main handle and it pushes forward one notch to 2nd. Basically, the shift lag is the same as it would be stock because you didn't change anything in the car other than a way to move the shifter forward a notch. Still TCM controlled off of pressures and things. Not a manual valve body.

@GLF426
@GLF426 3 жыл бұрын
@@451degreesF yes. That's correct. Still pretty cool though. It would be very fun in something with a manual valve body and a shift kit. It's designed after a Lenco . Look up Lenco drag racing and you'll see this. The difference in this and that is that the real thing is directly linked to the gear in the transmission and this linked to the shifter handle.

Yeah, sounds really slow when he shifts, it's as slow as my automatic, not saying the thing isn't cool and actually useful, thing is, it's still doing the same shifting the auto does, so my guess, don't know much about the subject, is that it's the same trans with just a fancy shifting setup. The driver can be fast AF to shift, but if it's the same tranny, it will still shift like stock.

Is it a fully manual valve body? I don't know if the car will shift itself if you just gun it and don't shift, but if you switch to that it wont go out of the gear you put it in, and the timing between when you shift...and when the car actually shifts will have a huge difference. Even when your not getting on it. Just a thought, not too hard of a process to do.

It's bc I let off right at the 2-3 shift - I know, lame, but it's hard to find a straightaway I can do this and it will spin through shifts on street tires. If you watch carefully i did it with the traction control on and it still spun 1-2 hard (watch the screen on the bottom on the gauge cluster in 4k and you'll see it clearly). With sticky tires and T/C off it's a really firm shift.

Check out my other video which shows a WOT 2-3 shift here: kzbin.info/www/bejne/a3i9gJaGbpKtqNU More importantly, I like this setup so I can hold gears, like hold 2nd gear on an uphill winding road. It looks very cool, but i think it's a bit annoying that sometimes the levers move, even though they shouldn't. It was especially bad while you were shifting from 2nd to 3rd.
@QueensGTO_Viper
@QueensGTO_Viper 7 жыл бұрын
Good catch. This was something I was concerned about before doing the install when I saw other videos of the shifter. The levers are all on the same mechanism so as you move through the gears the levers will move a bit, but even though there is a little play, they don't move around while driving which I was pleasantly surprised about.
@Etherion195
@Etherion195 7 жыл бұрын
+Queens GTO Well, but in this Video and the video where you introduced the shifter, they didn't move "just a bit", but actually heavily. In this video the shifter for 4th gear went almost all the way and from the video perspective it looked and sounded as if you accidentally shifted into 4th gear instead of 3rd gear, even though you only pulled the 3rd gear lever. This may be fixed, if you find a way to "lock" the shifters in the upper positions, like they lock into the gears. But anyway: how does this work in a car with automatic transmission, especially because you can still normally use the automatic transmission, if you want?
@QueensGTO_Viper
@QueensGTO_Viper 7 жыл бұрын
I hear ya - even though there's play in the levers, there's a distinct point where they click into gear so even though the rod moves, there's no accidental shifting to worry about. It' s one of those things I guess you have to feel. With regard to your second question, you can still use it just like a normal automatic and like I said in my other video, there's no benefit to this shifter if you're looking to simply accelerate. I did this because I already had the built transmission from racing the car and I am no longer racing it and did not want to go through the hassle of swapping in a manual. This was something I thought would be fun - hold gears on the street, etc + I never saw anyone do it before on a GTO.
@Etherion195
@Etherion195 7 жыл бұрын
+Queens GTO yeah, i know and you can also see that in the video. I just wanted to say that it would extremely annoy and maybe also confuse me sometimes, if i was the owner of the car and had a shifter, which isn't able to properly click into place, when not engaged. so it just seems like an optic and haptic problem for me personally. I can understand, why you did this and i am completely fine with it. My question aimed towards how it is technologically (if this is the right word) possible to work? Since you say that you have the "built transmission from racing the car", i would like to know, what you did to the transmission to make it work?
@QueensGTO_Viper
@QueensGTO_Viper 7 жыл бұрын
The transmission is a RPM level V 4l65 I put in the car when I was drag racing the car regularly. I have a link in the description. The shifter was an add-on I did afterwards now that the car is strictly street. When I ordered the shifter from Kilduff he made it to be compatible with a 4l65. I hope this answers your question.

I saw kilduff shifter in discovery channel kindig, and I'm curious how it works in day basis. Thanks for showing this.

is it possible to make some mod with pressure or something in the trans so the gears change as you pull gears? cool thing tho

Don’t get me wrong, but why not manual swapping it ? Doing such an engineering work just to be able to switch precisely between gears… just do a manual swap, it’s probably gonna be a lot easier

What happens when you are in 4th gear and pull both 2-3 and 3-4 levels up? Will you downshift to 2nd?
@QueensGTO_Viper
@QueensGTO_Viper 4 жыл бұрын
If I understood your question correctly, the rods move sequentially, meaning you have to go in order, so 4 -->3 and then 3-->2. No skipping gears. Let me know if you were asking something else. I usually will use the shifter to hold 2nd gear when racing off a roll and work my way up like in this vid kzbin.info/www/bejne/a3i9gJaGbpKtqNU

Question.... Seems like the car is fairly stock. Why would you put such a transmission in it? I get it if it has 800-1000 or more HP and you're drag racing why you would, but why to a seemingly stock unit?
@QueensGTO_Viper

It makes 500+ and it's a street car I used to drag race regularly. The transmission was built (RPM Level V) to be able to handle taking it to the track on weekends and stay reliable. When I was done racing it I figured the shifter would be something cheap I could add to the built trans to make it more fun for the street.

Probably good practice using that every day so it becomes more muscle memory action for the race car usage.

Kinda slow for an ls.. are these geared bad or just really heavy ? Don't get me wrong , I LOVE these goats but I'd just expected they'd be faster than that

Depends on what you consider fast or slow. This car will run 11.20's all day long on a prepped track on drag radials (hard to put power down on street tires). More importantly, it's a street car. I think it's in the sweet spot where I can rev it out, put all the power down and have fun with it without risking a wreck/spinning out or having a high maintenance engine. There are other faster cars on the street no doubt, but my car always runs and is still fun for me to drive.
