Well they admitted in "The making of The Lion King(2019)" that it was alllll done just for nostalgia points. Dude constantly says stuff like "You hear the music and like you are back to your childhood" and sh it. They know old fans of the original will watch it because "nostalgia" and praise it because it has "nostalgic" songs and "nostalgic" characters. They couldn't care less about making something new and original anymore.
@pantslesswrock2 жыл бұрын
Except Disney is a massive corporation that just does both, as well as making nature documentaries and cooking shows and sitcoms for teens and sitcoms for adults and live sports and and they were doing all that BEFORE they bought Star Wars, Marvel, and Fox. It is helpful to look at reality. And in reality they have a world-class animation studio and is using it to put out fare like Frozen 2 and Encanto (highly successful and popular among the target audience), and also live action CGI monstrosities that still rake in some cash (for now) - but what you've got to understand is that it doesn't matter if Uncanny Valley Lion King is bad or even if it loses a bit of money. Disney has been convinced for a couple decades now that that is a small price to pay in return for keeping the idea of "Lion King" in your mind. The point of Disney is not to make movies, hasn't been for decades. The point of Disney is to make/own IP that you care about to the point that you will go to the part of the business where they actually make the profits that matter - the theme parks.
@pantslesswrock2 жыл бұрын
@@Nekoszowa Um, yeah. The point is to get people to remember how much they love The Lion King in the same way the point of new Star Wars isn't to be good or even to be new Star Wars, but first and foremost to remind you that Star Wars exists and you like Star Wars, even if you don't like *this* Star Wars. Because that gets you to the parks and buying merchandise (if not for you, then for your kids). Disney thinks long term these days and is happy to wait for returns on generational investment.

The biggest problem with remaking a cartoon is you're much more limited in terms of character design, movement, facial expressions, colours, shapes, clothes, tasks they can accomplish and pysics. In Burton's defense, he was hired on late in Alice in Wonderland's development. Disney wanted another Narnia and the story was penned by Linda Woolverton. Burton wanted a psychological coming-of-age story with certain elements of American McGee's Alice, but Disney struck that down. Also, I've heard that this was literally made so Burton could get the funding to make Frankenweenie. Basically, the movie was already made and they slapped Burton on at the last minute to make everything look interesting.

The very concept of remaking things is a grey area for me. On one hand, if say, a video game gets remade because it was a beloved game on an old/obscure console, and the company adds enough new to it, it can be a fun ride. But what Disney says they are doing is remaking the classics for “a new generation.” For fucks sake, if I wanted my kids to see the Lion King, I’d show them the *ORIGINAL* Lion King. Its on Disney+ anyway. There is litterally no good reason why these remakes exist when I am fairly certain you can watch the original, and most likely superior, versions just as easily.
@unicornbunny54393 жыл бұрын
Not to mention, Maleficent, Mulan and Cruella are rated M/PG-13, so they don’t even have the “new generation” defence. (Maleficent: Mistress of Evil also was originally going be M/PG-13, but Disney wanted the movie to be more “family-friendly.”)
