The best version of the saddest song I ever heard. Who can listen to this song with dry eyes at the end?

Such a heavy, yet beautiful song; earnestly sung by a great singer

I’m always in tears by the time I hear “Pat MacNamara.” The vocal ornament on “in June” - jagged sobs.

Important to note that it was written by Peter Jones of the US, a wonderful guy.

Not only Irish people. I moved to the U.S. from Germany ten years ago, and I can emphasize with it as well. Hard song to listen to.

KingChris83 I agree! I'm Bulgarian but I've lived most of my life abroad...it's not easy! And I didn't asked for it either, I was ten when we left. If I had a choice I would've stayed home! Which makes even harder. My connection to Ireland is the love of my life, John, whom we lost 13 years ago.

NLT, thats not Sean Keane's version, it's Robbie O'Connell. In Jan 1993 Robbie released a seperate 5 track CD titled "Kilkelly", along with Jimmy Keane and Mick Moloney for which you'll find lots of live vesions across youtube.. including YOURS!. Sean Keane's version isn't on utube but if you listen to his other stuff (e.g. Isle of Hope Isle of Tears) you'll notice his voice is distinctive. Also on Sean's version of "Kilkelly" he narrates the third verse as opposed to singing it.

Why is this labeled as Sean Keane when it is Robbie O'Connell?
