CLIP DESCRIPTION:
The Bride (Uma Thurman) says hello to an old friend, Black Mamba style.
FILM DESCRIPTION:
Perhaps the most highly anticipated film of 2003, Kill Bill Vol. 1 marked the return of renowned filmmaker Quentin Tarantino after a six-year hiatus. Re-teaming the director with Uma Thurman for the first time since 1994's Pulp Fiction, the film was originally the first half of what was to be a three-hour-plus movie before being split into two films. Thurman stars as The Bride, one-fifth of a team of assassins called DiVAS. When The Bride opts to leave the outfit for a life of marital bliss, it doesn't sit well with her boss, Bill (David Carradine), so he has her former cohorts, played by Lucy Liu, Vivica A. Fox, Daryl Hannah, and Michael Madsen, show up at the nuptials, leaving behind a blood bath. Miraculously, The Bride survives a bullet to the head and, four years later, she sets out for revenge against her four assassins and their employer. The story is concluded in Kill Bill Vol. 2, released six months later.

later in the scene, Vernita says: "that's being more rational than Bill led me to believe you were capable of." I'm pretty sure she was talking about how Bill told her that Beatrix killed 50+ people to get to O'ren. which means that Bill *DID* warn Vernita about Beatrix coming for her. Vernita knew about it, that's why she wasn't even that surprised when she came. she just says "you want some coffee?" plus she already has a speech prepared about her daughter, just to try to negotiate her way out of it.

I actually really like how many "cat-fights" are in this movie. The film doesn't draw any attention to the fact that females are fighting, it's just as badass as any male on male Bruce Lee fight scene. Then once she actually faces off against a male, Bill, it's much more an emotional battle than a physical one, and the physical portion is very brief. In a way it's the most mature battle in the film.

They could make a solo film about Vernita and Elle Driver, have you ever thought how magnificent it would be?
@gaterunner64
@gaterunner64 10 жыл бұрын
Out of all the fight scenes, the only one where you find yourself fully vested in the character, and hope things turn out differently, is Vernita Green/Copperhead. Not only is the fight scene the most believable, she is the only one in the movie, besides Beatrix that is the most relatable. Vernita completely mirrors Beatrix Kiddos own desire to quit the life and fade into suburban anonymity. Beatrix realises the parallel, and delays her imminent execution. It should have been Vernita with the question mark besides her name, not Elle. Summation- Vivica Fox took this scene and breathed a damaged soul into it and made it human.
@stephabo3787
@stephabo3787 10 жыл бұрын
Look at Vernita's skill years later. She had to have been still training on the side. She went into anonymity but she never forgot her skill. Even after getting married and having a child her skill was still in top form and she was in great shape. Most people would have been sluggish or slow after quitting but Vernita was fined tuned. She had to have been still training without her husband knowing. You never forget your skill but you can become sluggish if you don't keep it up.

Man, if Vivica A Fox had come of age in Hollywood today, she would have been an amazing choice to play a superhero or supervillain. She has such a ferocious physicality to her. Her movements, her facial expressions, her body language...it all screams action hero/action movie/badass fighter. Imagine a younger Vivica playing one of the Dora Milaje, or one of the Amazons... Imagine her playing DC's Vixen or Marvel's Storm.

I've had a knife pulled on me once before, and let me tell you, the feelings you experience at times like 1:29 in the standoff are unlike any other. For a director of movies that likes to use as much comedy in his films as Quentin Tarantino, he does an excellent job of capturing the tense, horrifying atmosphere in a fight as ugly and brutal as knife combat.

@TheShockwaveDragon
@TheShockwaveDragon 9 жыл бұрын
+Imani:D It was at a house and a disagreement got out of hand. The other guy -- who wasn't very stable to begin with, at the time this happened -- resented my attempting to deescalate the situation enough that he went and grabbed a kitchen knife. I didn't have anywhere to go because of how close quarters everything was, and the situation didn't allow for me to just up and run either, so rather than get backed into a wall and possibly slashed or stabbed I made the snap decision of trying to regain some control of the situation by turning the tables and advancing on him instead when he came back with it (incidentally, I now carry at least a pocket knife with me at all times). I'm not ashamed to admit that I was really freaking out on the inside and jumpy as hell since I was unarmed and the guy was off his rocker, but after he missed his swings and backed himself into a corner, I was able to get close enough to disarm him. He grabbed something else to swing at me after I let him go that was less dangerous than the knife, but was a lot easier to take away, so I disarmed him again, and subdued him until he snapped out of it and began to simmer down. This movie is a trip to watch, right down to the eye contact between the two. Fox and Thurman are hellacious actors.

Even though l have no problem with this encounter and fight being as short as it was, l still think it was unfortunate that this character got so little screen time. There is so much potential. l would not mind a short film about Vernita's adventures during her days with Bill, or beforehand. Or at least for her to show up as a cameo in another Tarantino film someday. :)

There isn't one for bud or ellie either. she was like sisters with Oren that's why she has a huge chunk of the movie dedicated to her upbringing. If you notice she can't even look at Oren after she killed her and was incredibly emotional, just like when she killed bill. She was a little emotional when she killed vernita which makes me believe they were friends not sure how close, that and I don't even know my best friends coffee order and vernita remembered after 4 years lol

Every fight scene in Kill Bill with whoever is on the check list, has their own story line - which I really enjoyed. With Vernita, they definitely dived into both characters battling their own self identity of a killer and of a new life at home and a mother. Conveniently, this was battle occurred at Vernita's home which could symbolize that she'll never be at peace with her past even minutes away from her daughter coming home from school. She dies in her own home, with her daughter watching ... No Mother should be subjected to have their seed experience that, but we're then faced with the karma that Vernita had no such thoughts years before at Beatrix's wedding. QT was something else during Kill Bill.
