As Jack Koffman described it, this song has a melancholic tone with hints of hope in it. I appreciate the overall tone for both pieces, and that the same chord progression (F#min9, B7, Emaj9, C#, in this case) was used. I can see why the final version was used, as it uses Rusty's theme in a more polished way than James' in the bonus track. Plus, it has a more subtle way of displaying the overall sadness of Hawin's journey, while also showing the hopeful tones of Rusty, a light in the darkness, as he fought against Dane's mind tricks. That isn't to say that this version isn't good. The whining organ, according to my own interpretation, is the sobbing of the viewer's interior self as he processes everything that just happened in the Horrors of Hawin Lake. After witnessing the events through many characters, even watching a few die, these three-minute masterpieces are moving tear-jerkers. The songs kind of say, "Yeah, we know you cried inside, so we'll try breaking the dam to make those tears flow out." I've noticed that many people have speculated about there possibly being a part six to this series, but seeing as how Railspin Splitspace clearly concludes it all, there really doesn't need to be. We already know what happened, and can think of ways that the engines coped with everything afterward. Heck, you even showed us an image of Hawin, Dane, and Lady in the realm of the Magic Railroad in a community post and on Twitter, exemplifying that amends were made... ...however... ...would you ever consider revisiting Hawin in any future episode, that is, if you have one in place? I'm not demanding or requesting, since I know well that you've got a life outside of KZbin and the TTTE fandom. I'm just curious, honestly. There was so much buildup to this moment in the series, and now that it's come to pass, surely you have plans for the future, whether it's continuing to release content on this channel or calling it a day's work. In one of my recent comments, I wrote an amateur epilogue to complete the arch between Hawin's death and his reuniting and redemption with Dane in the afterlife. Honestly, something of the like would be a pretty cool for a bonus part six. However, it isn't truly needed, since the unexplained events (what James saw the night he crashed, how Hawin was repaired, the aftermath of Thumper, how Lady met her fate, etc.) are meant to be interpreted by the viewers, and this unexplained event would be no exception. Still...many folks, myself included, are dying to see more. I appreciate the way you and other members of the community joined forces and talents to create such a devastatingly beautiful masterpiece, a magnum opus in the development of your channel and writing. Getting back to the picture of the Magic Railroad, I just gotta say that it somewhat reminds me of A Bugs Life, with the way that Hawin and Dane are looking at each other...Tuck and Roll, or something, idk. Before I conclude this long comment, I just have one more question: If you make more regular TTTE episodes in the future, will the Hawin canon ever apply? Most of those episodes would be made for general audiences, and since the HoHL franchise is obviously for a mature audience, it would be hard to incorporate a such a character into something that kids would potentially watch. However, in Carson Marenka's recent episode, "Boat Train," Dennis is briefly featured as a side character, and considering his history in the episode "All Eyes on Dennis," it's a bit of a surprise that he'd make an appearance as a working engine on Sodor.
