Grisly Mark is great with central control and any missions that require action on objectives. In Domination you can lock down centre objective for yourself and safely score it together with central control.

great video man. I've started looking at these mission recently - does seem like a tall order being the defender although i like the idea of getting reinforcements late game. a higher model count team that could be a great move being the defender. Nice to see the grey knights getting an outting i've still not revisited any of the teams that got bumped in the last update. I'm still looking forward to the warp covens debut but after that would love to see some novitiates - just about to start painting them up myself, so it'd be good to have on for hobby time

I have really enjoyed playing through the octarius missions, next up some of the Chalnath ones now the terrain is painted. Noviciates are next up on the painting table after the warp coven......and when I get a new box to add the flamers in 🤣

I definitely agree with you that the Legionaries are a strong ranged team. I'm convinced that while the melee rules (esp Khorne) are very cool, they arent as strong as folks would like. It takes quite the set up *and* an unlucky opponent for something like the Butcher or Anointed to really pop off. But a whole ranged elite team getting a free 5+ crit and 4+ invuln AND a +1 APL tactical ploy? Man, its just so good.

Exactly! I think we get all get a bit caught up with the flashy close combat stuff, but Kill Team is so rough in close combat, even when you win you take hits. I will be testing this theory soon, I have the new Legionaries ready to be painted up!

The thing is, the game was still winnable on Turn 3 until the Grey Knights decided to try the Bolter Discipline route again. The play here is Shock Assault. Then, since the Knights have Initiative, on of the first Activation he has to Charge with one of the Knights that entered the board. With 3" deployment and 8" Charge move he should be able to wrap around the Butcher and get within 1" of the Anointed as well. Since the Butcher has 6 wounds all he needs to do is roll a single 5+ on 4 dice to kill him instantly. Then, via Shock Assault, he can spend his last AP to attack the Anointed (who has not gone Ctrl+Alt+Daemon because then he can't do Mission Actions anymore). With the Knight swinging first with a Power Weapon, he's got fair odds to kill the Anointed as well. Then it is just a matter of playing goal keeper against the Acolyte. All, even if Grey Knights max out Tac Ops and Legionaries score no more Tact Ops, the score would be 11-12 in favor of the Legionaries. I think the points spread on damage is a little unbalanced in this mission, but I suppose what with it being Narrative and all there's not so much worry about it as part of a campaign - everyone will have their turn as Attacker at some point if they want it. I think a better scale would probably be: 0 DMG = 12 - 0 1-3 DMG = 8 - 4 4 DMG = 6 - 6 5-7 DMG = 4-8 8+ DMG = 0-12 I think feel like it should take more than 2 melta bomb strikes to take a permanent 4pt lead on primary objectives. Also, the Plant Explosives action should probably be worded so that it can't be performed in the same Turning Point that the model took any Shoot or Charge actions, rather than keeping you from doing any _after_ you Plant Explosives.

Good call on the close comabt play, I will pass that on to him. I don't even think he considered it. Although the game looked like a wash, I only had three models left at the end to his three. So Losing even one more would have been huge. I think making it that you cant shoot, charge or fight in a turn where you want to place the bomb is also the way to go. Thanks for watching!

Yeah the small model count hurts, you just can't be everywhere and not getting the full reinforcements swung the game massively! I'll add your vote to the Sons of Alpahrius!

You know I'm always gonna come running when I sense the Black Legion are going to make an apperance! Entertaining battle report as always, very good wrap up/breakdown too. I'm planning on running more non-core rulebook missions in the future because as you've noted here, you often have to change your default mind set going into the more unusual missions. Well done on finishing the chalnath terrain, I've got one more building to go!

Another enjoyable batrep; this is my second time seeing this mission played, and the outcomes were identical. Maybe if bombs were tokens, which the defenders could use actions to disable, that would keep things from being so skewed. Oh well, I’m no Grey Knight apologist!

Great stuff as always, brother. Great to see some marine on marine action! Grey Knights are a team that I've built but never played. Seems like a fun, easy to pilot team. Been loving Legionaries lately. Going from 14 model VetGuard to 6 model Legionaries has been really easy on the brain, and I need easy lol. That mission has a ton of flavor, but I agree definitely feels a little slanted. Was it fun? It looked like a fun mission to really shake things up. This makes me want to look into these missions.

Man the elite teams are kick ass for edit times and cognitive load, especially when I didn't even get to use half the abilities. The mission was really fun....until we were like "Oh, it's done" I'm still enjoying these missions from the books thats for sure

Maybe its just me being a noob but I feel like some of the Octarius missions are fairly one sided in either the attackers or the defenders favour. Also I am really hyped for the Warpcoven battle report

Yeah, they are really fun but some do feel tough to win for one side or for certain factions . I wouldn't mind playing as the defender on this mission to see if I could play it differently. Next up Warp Coven, I can't wait to get them on the table.....now I gotta get their paint jobs finished!!

Honestly I’d have given you the game when I didn’t get all my guys back at the start of TP 2. The mission was pretty much a forgone conclusion after the attacker/defender roll, let alone that happening. No shame in acknowledging reality, racking & going again.

That was brutal! After spending the equipment on them as well and have them still fail......Ruined it for them right there. The first time I played this mission I failed all four rolls on my reinforcements for my craftworld team.....hurt so bad! Thanks for watching as always!

Glad you’re feeling better. The only way I could see this being a fair matchup would’ve been to let the GK be the attackers. Anything else is just an A tier team bullying a C tier team. The Legionaries kill team while skewed towards melee is very solid with lots of tricks up their sleeve. The GK psychic powers are underwhelming. Melee is the Legionaries’ bread & butter, what with the Shrivetalon always counting as the attacker & having lethal 5+. The Butcher & Annointed (especially when he turns daemon mode on) are no slouches either, so they easily compensate for the GK having lethal 5+ on their melee weapons.

Are the Grey Knights with six operatives still C Tier though? They seem to pack so much power in each model even if they are all the same.

@@senti5468 Having played them a few time, against teams with lower armour saves they are dangerous probably B, but against a lot of the tougher teams they still struggle. They need an update to their psychic powers I think.

The no AP weapons really hurts the Grey Knights. Against teams who don't have power armour they excel! The key to this mission is definitely lockdown on the objective and wait for help!
