The thing about conflicting feelings of Stannis character is quite well represented in that small "grammar police" talk. He's very strict and on-point to everything and everybody around that it's making him unlikable by everyone. So he's just and strict up to the point of being harsh and cruel in his intentions and actions. If you remember Ser Davos story - it is very representative of this (Stannis was defending a castle at the stage of severe hunger during Robert's rebellion. Davos smuggled some food there and was promoted to being a noble lord for it but lost his fingers at the same time for smuggling as the laws commanded)

Ya, and while the fingers thing seems harsh it’s not as bad as it seems when you think about it and read the details. It was only from the fingertips to the first knuckle, and it was only the four fingers as he left him his full thumb, so it doesn’t too much effect his ability to use that hand. And he even did him the kindness of taking it from his right hand as Davos is left handed. As Davos said, he “shortened” his hand. But it wasn’t devastating and he could continue to live a normal life despite. Stannis is a hardcore rule follower so he HAD in his mind to punish him in some way for a lifetime of smuggling, and it really seems like he went as soft on him as possible, at least by Stannis standards. But dude also rewarded him with lands and a knighthood which is HUGE. Not to mention securing a future for his children. Davos doesn’t bear a grudge and honestly neither would I in that situation, he got far more than he lost.

Fun fact the hounds father was kennel master for tywins father tytos and one day when tytos was strolling through the westerlands a lioness almost killed him until his kennel master brought over 3 dogs and they were able to save tytos life but it cost the lives of the 3 dogs as recompense tytos gave sandors father some land and titles and his banner is the 3 hounds that were killed ,tywin knew that sandor and gregor would grow up to be his loyal mad dogs to use in war so eventually he made sure to give gregor a knightship by asking the king and the prince rhaegar knighted gregor ,thats why gregor didnt care or think twice when tywin ordered him to kill rhaegars kids and rxpe her and kill her because he was more loyal to his liege lord than to his royal family

Stannis says "fewer" on more than one occasion...I love it! I had to look it up after he said it onboard the ship bound for Blackwater Bay. And he is right in his grammar correction: "fewer" is used when the item is easily counted (soldiers) versus use of "less" which is for items that are not easily counted (sugar granules).🤓

It always irritates me to think that Ser Barristan Selmy, one of the best warriors IN THE HISTORY of Westeros and a true legend of fighting, was killed by the sons of harpies somewhere in an alley... He deserved a much better fate than being killed by some band of rebels in masks, and definitely even though before his death he killed many opponents and from the beginning he fought alone against the entire gang, but his full skills were not shown because Barristan, despite his age, is still a level higher than all other warriors from the series and only Ser Arthur Dayne was considered better and maybe Jaime with both hands he would have a chance against old Barristan.

Ramseys reaction to the pregnancy announcement is more foreshadowing, so is Johns decision to have the free folk (Wildlings) through the wall. Lots of stuff happened this episode that will reverberate through the rest of the season and the series.

This is one of my favorite season 5 episodes. I think it's underrated. Jon is coming into his own at the wall, and the interactions Ramsay has with both his father and his lover Myranda are interesting. This was Charlotte Hope's breakout role. She has been in the Spanish Princess and other big things since then.

They are in Old Valeria. The capital of the Valerian Empire. Basically, Rome. It is surrounded by the "14 flames" volcanoes that erupted all at once (probably with some magical intervention). Valeria was destroyed in a day. That's The Doom. Most of the major cities in Essos are called Valeria's Daughters. There are 9. That's all that remained after the Doom. There was only 1 dragon riding family that escaped the Doom, out of 40 families. The Targaryans. They were established on Dragonstone by the time of the Doom because a daughter of The Targ Patriarch's daughter had a Dragon Dream. She dreamt if the doom early, and they heeded her advice to flee Vareria. So they were in place to unite and take control of Westeros after being there for a while. And no one could stop them. Anyway, in our current timeline that's where they send the Stone Men. People with the disease that Shireen Baratheon had. They all go pretty insane after a point. And they are aggressive. And the disease is highly contagious.

One of the great things about this book series and they keep for the TV show, the characters are more complex than good and bad, hero and villain. We are getting to several characters have a bit of both in them. Stannis, Jamie, Theon, Tormund, the Hound (rip) just to name a few. Great job to the cast and crew for showing this part of the books.
