You can tell they have been watching the J5 drum Major's of Jackson St. I'm from Houston Texas, and I think the J5 is some of the coldest drum major's to do it.

I believe Skyline is a magnet high school and is mixed half Black and Hispanic a little more Hispanic though which explains the diversity

Funny you should mention better person. I screen candidates for Toyota for a living and the exact same skills that we need and look for in our team members are what these band members learn. It's a great training ground for all sorts of real world work.

I know the band director is a JSU alum and one of the instructors is a former J5, but it still takes a lot of discipline to do what those DMs were doing. Big ups to Skyline.

Everyone on here commenting on how Skyline is copying JSU’s routine..... So I guess everyone is gonna ignore all the Louisiana bands that emulate Southern huh.... It’s ok for a high school to emulate a college band but a college band can’t imitate another college band. Those are the rules. Instead of criticizing these kids give them credit because would you rather see this band as a Corp style band or a replica of JSU? That’s what I thought.

The other 2 Male DMs beside the young lady is marching but theyre counting too fast Head DM & the Young Lady is on one number @ they’re on a different number they have to pick their feet up in order to stay with them... Amd the instrumentalists aren’t enthusiastic they’re also not picking their they’re feet up & they’re being lazy with marching enthusiasm is key to marching band

I understand if you are influenced by a HBCU band but why not come up with your own routine? I know many others schools tend to do this too but this is a great opportunity to set yourselves apart. Because if not, then we have about 4 different Drum Major squads doing the same JSU get ready routine. Don’t get me wrong they did a good job but imagine how great it would be if they did their own routine.

xXxxXx high schools tend to emulate other schools like PWIs. In Texas, if you go to an urban school, you emulate either PV, TxSU, or Southern. For these men to come from Jackson State, and bring their influence and wisdom to these kids, that is a big accomplishment. And for them to bring a Sonic Boom routine to a state that is predominantly influenced by Prairie View, I’d give them a standing ovation. #TheeILove

David Smith I went to a hs in Texas. Close to Skyline as well and our band director was in an HBCU band. Was a drum major myself. There were times we were influenced by his college DMs but that didn’t mean that we’d go out and copy their whole routine. I’m not saying we were original or we were better or anything. It’s just that when you see a whole bunch of DMs do this same exact routine then nothing really sets you apart.
