Valley was alive in the 60’s and 70’s and was invited to march in the Rose Bowl Parade. They marched with military precision and admired by PWI band directors back in the day. They also were one of the first bands to sing their notes.

Can't say this good or bad. It's their first performance under Dr. Bonds, they are larger than they have been in a long time, and it's in a domed stadium. But, I will say that I am surpassed and looking forward to seeing more from them as the season progresses. They will definitely be a problem in the SWAC.

My son had a few colleges looking at him until Bonds sent us an email. I am so glad my son, not me, made a decision to go with, not the most popular school, but with the program we felt had his best interest at heart and potential to be great. Bonds is that guy! I can vouch for that!

Having grown up in Jackson I remember going to JSU vs. MVSU football in the 1970s. MVSU was huge in terms of numbers. Valley also had a style unique to them in that they had a corps marching style and they were very good at it. I hate that they abandoned their style in favor of looking like other SWAC marching bands. Not knocking their new band director but they should have hired someone that would have restored their corps traditions, maybe even with some new twinking.

It’s always good to see a band program come up in numbers. You can tell that their arrangements and show style didn’t take the increase into consideration. It would have been better to have they band face the crowd during their actual drill number to better showcase their sound, Step 2 drills are not for everyone regardless of their size. Be very interesting to see their continued growth.

@@tamikaweber007 from ‘99-03 with the Marching Storm. In the trumpet section we marched forward, backwards, and sideways always with our horns pointed at the crowd. Louder instruments such as trombones and tubas can get away without always facing crowd because they have a wider spreading sound because of the bell circumference but our show was always with the crowd in mind.

WOW...why so much hate? My son is in his 3rd year with this band and the 3rd band director. Why not be proud of their progress and give them time. The majority of the members are in their 1st year and this is after 2 and a half weeks of band camp. All in all their performance was very impressive on a very big stage considering how far they have come. During the down years there was criticism about their size; now with increased numbers lets encourage these kids

I totally agree! My son is a Freshman and I was saddened to see the hateful comments, discouragement and put downs. These kids have heart and they want this. I don't know what happened in the past but what I witnessed Saturday has promise and I'm excited for them ALL! I believe in them! This season will be GREAT!

I really hope they will grow and get better because the SWAC cam use more competition. The SWAC over the years has lost so much appeal that was gained in the late 90's.

Halftime has never been a time to go to the concession stands at HBCU's. Needless to say, the Green Marching Machine will keep HBCU fans away from the concession stands this year!!! The "pageantry of halftime" is real and I'm excited to see some SWAC & HBCU football/halftime shows and the Fifth Quarter. Way to Go Valley!!!

Read alot of comments from people who I can assume have band experience. That being said, I for one appreciate the feedback and hope the BD can see what areas need working on, which Im sure he will. Me having no experience could see that the B formation when they did Briggs name needs to come in more so it looks like an actual B and some on that left side took a lil too long to make formation while the other end was already in place. For me criticism is good when its coming from a meaningful place. For the first performance from starting over and with this size..very impressed and look forward to the next and the next. Rome wasnt built in a day and neither will this program. Good Job Valley. V-STATE💚❤️🤍

I stay across the highway from Valley and can hear the band so loud and clear. While driving on Highway 82, I see them practicing in the sweltering heat at night with the delta mosquitoes....Great Job! I'm looking forward to the season.
