Killed the Crappie Today Fishing Deep Structure

'Pro Tip'... Take your pliers and bend those crappie hooks out away from the jig head (about a 16th of an inch), and you'll give yourself an addition chance to land those slabs after 'The set', and the crappie doing what it does to rip it's own mouth to get off of the hook. Bending it out away from the shaft of the hook will also make it more likely to catch the roof of the crappies mouth if they do their signature 'wiggle' trying to escape the tip of that hook. They might be able to escape the hook, but they can't escape that 'barb' on that hook once it's inside the roof of their mouth.

When I was looking at the jig head, that’s what I was checking for. It actually was bent out good, so I don’t think that was the issue. That hook was much thicker than the wire I usually see, not sure why…

Good content my man... If you losing alot of fish my advice would be to try J hooks (regular hooks) instead of sickles. J hooks tend to lock into the fish mouths better and they don't come off. Sickles can come out easier as you saw when you flipped a couple in the boat and the hook easily came out.

Very nice limited of Cappies and there was some hog and there as well. On Amazon they have some wide bam hats with two solar fans built in them to keep you cool on those hot summer days on the water. God bless

Crappie's mouths are paper thin. I do not think it is 100% the hooks. Maybe try a number 2 circle hook.

Maybe even put a small grub worm plastic on a number 2 circle hook. Maybe that small number 2 circle hook might increase your hook up ratio.
