Have you ever heard of Tom MacDonald? He's an independent rapper that addresses real things. I'm a metalhead that doesn't like rap, but I like his music because he talks about real issues nobody else does. He's got a song called Names. He makes some good points when it comes to name calling. And he does it with style. Sticks and stones can break our bones or they can build our castles.

Truth. You can bend over backwards and they are still trouble makers. It's like the more attention we give them, it is bad for us because they will expect it all the time and they won't put anything into the relationship and when you realize everything is put on you, the red flag pops up.

A few years ago I started saying “sure!” in a dismissive “whatever you say” kind of way. This was before I realized the narcissistic traits I was dealing with but I was just at my wits end so I randomly started to falsely ‘agree’ with what my spouse was ridiculously and abusively saying. It made me feel better and when I just would constantly keep agreeing with whatever came out of his mouth he eventually shut down. My narcissistic child recently said “you’re a funny woman! “In a condescending and malicious way. My reply… “I am funny and I’m also fun.” I was just feeling total self love in the moment and you could literally watch her deflate. It was like the wind just got sucked out of her. The weirdest thing, was that it was almost like I had told her SHE wasn’t funny, just by turning her insult on its head and giving myself credit and acknowledging part of my personality. To anyone dealing with this stuff, don’t be afraid to literally flip whatever insult they’re saying on its head and watch the narc fall. Hope this helps some of you, it’s a freaking minefield to navigate!

Oh my lord..your experience with a narc spouse and child parallels mine except the narc is my wife and child is my 26 year old daughter. I like the way you defused the situation with a self affirming reflection. Just know you are not alone. Unfortunately. there are many of us, both men and women out here dealing with the realization of having a disordered spouse and their parental alienation of your children. Parental alienation is a HUGE sign of a narcissistic spouse. Their smear campaigns over years results in strained or alienated relationships with our children. Then having to deal with our children developing narcissistic traits learned from the narc spouse? It's indeed tragic and I understand completely what it's like. Be well..

@@istj66360 Thanks for that. I wish I could say I react that way all the time but I do get sucked into the drama every now and then. I have found the biggest key to ALL of this though, is internally healing all the childhood wounding that we all have that caused me to attract people like this in my life in the first place. I react less and less from a more complete and whole state of being because what they say no longer has anywhere to land like it did before now that some of the wounding is healed. In my opinion, this is the only way to fully get out of this cycle sanely and that’s by doing a lot of inner healing so that I start attracting super healthy relationships that are a vibrational match to the new me. In the end (in my opinion), the core issue is an energetic one and once that starts getting addressed, things start shifting.

@@santoparfano1910 Thank you for your kind words. It definitely does help to read the comments of other peoples experiences, and gain insight into what might or might not work for strategies. This has definitely been a tough pill to swallow because mine hasn’t been years like this, although I now see very subtle red flags that I brushed under the carpet. The real toxicity actually started coming out when I started consistently doing some of these tactics like gray rocking and specifically that one. It was suddenly like I had discovered a completely different side to the person I had been with for many, many years that was just laying dormant. As soon as I started really testing the waters with some of these techniques, the hidden person that I feel has always been there, really came out. Take care of yourself as well and I hope your transition goes smoothly at whatever point in the journey you’re at.

I wish I had these tools in 1992 or earlier! I may not have wasted so much of my life thinking that I wasn’t good enough! My husband looked at me when our child was 4 months old and he said, “ Look at you, who would want you!” 24 years later it still haunts me. Every time I look at him I think about him saying that to me. He has apologized cried and begged for forgiveness. He cheated on me for 4 years that I know about. I was a teacher and was afraid I couldn’t make it on my own. I was so beat down. I’m sure I made a huge mistake!

Omggg the guilt tripping is REAL! And so is playing the victim 🤦‍♀️ I’m late to the party but I can definitely use these comebacks when dealing with snarky comments and insults. I’ve heard the nastiness my whole life and I am soooooo over it! I’ve been in therapy for over 25 years but JUST really realized that not only does my mother have mental health problems but she is def a full blown narcissist. At 51 years old I can finally see it so clearly. So I’m healing all over again. But I’m older and a bit wiser. I will not let anyone, and I mean ANYONE steal my peace or cause me stress. The family (including my mother and adult kids) have already been told. I will not hesitate to show you the door. 🤷‍♀️

@@aleigha9141 That's awesome! All the narcs I've known (including parents) are totally fine with my not being in their lives. The only one that was bothered was recent, but now ex, covert narc--who threatened me if I left. But I'm sure it's just that the narc's pride was hurt to lose an always-there object (me) and carried on as per usual with fooling relatives and coworkers, and continuing on with the constant maladaptive daydreaming and fantasizing without missing a beat. Leaving narcs doesn't hurt their feelings; everyone is replaceable and disposable to the narcs.

It's difficult to find a good therapist. People always say "just go to therapy" like it's so easy, but then the good ones are totally booked up (because everybody is in therapy apparently!) or don't take your insurance or want to pass you off to a rookie. And there are a lot that either just don't "get you" or they need therapy themselves.

@@RebeccaZungEsq I do OK. I only had to deal with my narcissist for a month and a half. I just feel sorry for people who've had to deal with abuse like that longer. I feel sorry for those without means to fight back. I did. One thing I didn't know then that I know now is what a narcissist keeps on their phone and why they guard it like they do. If I would've known that, I would've just knocked her out, taken her phone and gone to the police with it. But I didn't and she's dead now. I lost a friend of 10+ years. I don't miss the monster she was at the end, but I miss the friend I once had even though she was probably never real in the first place.

I agree with all of those except for the last one, “let’s aim to be respectful, if if you can’t be respectful then we’re not going to have conversations, and you can always get up and leave!” I have never had success with this. The threat of leaving, mentioning leaving, showing any sign of trying to leave, amplifies the rage and defensiveness with the narcissist in my life. Any time I realize the things need to calm down for both our sakes, or treatise the conversation isn’t going anywhere, and I try to create some distance, or create some space between us, she panics and becomes elicited in her rage. She will physically try to stop me, rip my shirt trying to stop me from leaving, slam the door on me as I’m walking out with my arms full, follow me to me car and threaten to call the police, stand behind my car, park behind my car before hand when she is showing up at a time where she knows I don’t want to see her or talk to her, she will follow me, threaten me, hit me, if leave unscathed she will blow up my phone, show up to my house, threaten to kill herself, cut herself, etc the list goes on. Leaving it talking about leaving doesn’t end well with mine a lot of the time. I’m finally to a place where I’ve created enough distance, where we don’t live together, I’ve given up on her changing, so I don’t put myself in situations where these things happened, but it’s been a long 3 years. And our poor child, I’ve had to give up on being his dad in many senses as she uses him as ammunition to get back at me and try to hurt me.

Divorcing a Narc after 29 years. Months ago she brought her HS Friend into visit and can't get her to leave. Lawyers tell me not to leave but I have been getting tag teamed on the silent treatment and disrespect for 6 months waiting for mediation to complete. Every once in awhile I break the silence because I am pissed with the level of disrespect at my expense. Neither one works and they are living in my house off my funds. I understand they are trying to get a reaction and believe me I've put up with a lot not reacting but every so often ....Final mediation is Monday and it doesn't look good. Half of everything is not enough for her and she has already said she wants a judge. Looks like I will be living in this hell another 6 months to a year until we can get a court date.

I agree to all the comments. Actually I have used them all without even knowing that is what started baffling him about me. Cuz I was no longer gonna let him insult me, first I mirrored him , then I realized I didn’t feel good about hurting someone I loved when I knew their ill. Plus stepping down to his level didn’t make me any better. However ya when the end was near I was basically saying these comments cuz I had enough his words meant nothing. His actions showed more to me and that’s when I began to realize I need to live for myself now so I ended it and not like in Tht past where I said were done and the next say everything was back to normal. No this time I didn’t take his calls, avoided him or ignoring him when he followed me, blocked him on social media and started living my best life for me and of course my young adult children. And it was hard to walk away from someone I really was so much in love with but after five years of it and nothing being reciprocated I knew I had a better chance for him to see my worth if I left him and moved on and maybe down the road he will figure it out but today we talk as friends and had a fight about a past situation and then got mad and hung up on me so I thought oh well he still hasn’t changed and it is going on and year and almost a half since I ended us. Anyhow ya I took my power back almost immediately upon making the choice to not look back even though I did and only saw all the good stuff about us and it was hard I started working a inventory job that required my traveling every week and going to places throughout Nevada and all throughout California which I learned how big of a state Calif really is. Anyhow I somewhat isolated myself in the beginning but slowly as I was walking thru it I steady and slowly got better and today I have no regrets of anything not even him. I still love him but I understand he isn’t well. He isn’t a bad guy he just has deep rooted issues and hopefully one day he will get the chance to make a change and grow from it. Thanks for your informative videos. God Bless and Stay safe

How about, “We should definitely discuss this later.” And then go “No contact”. Or if you’re forced to see them again then just keep kicking that can down the road. Don’t let them call the shots or timing. They don’t own or control you.

These are some helpful tips. Thank you for taking the time to share them. However, I wanted to offer a different viewpoint with the "I agree" response. A Narcissist is a master manipulator and they can spot a superficial, contrived response. So, I would ONLY say "I agree..." when there is actually some part of their communication that you can actually agree upon. For example, they might say "You make me have to do everything" (even though you know this is not true in the slightest...it is just their exaggerated distortions). One could then perhaps reply "I agree...that you do a lot, but I do too. Let's not view the other as adversaries but work as a team, together, instead."

Wonderful video, as always; thank you. The issue that I have with the logic of how you treat others is a direct reflection of how you view yourself...when applied to the narcissist through the lens of the Flying Monkeys. They would go on a witness stand and use that logic to defend them being a pillar of the community, a wonderful family member, friend, Mom, etc. And we stand alone because there are no witnesses (Or very few) to the abuse that we endure. But applied correctly to the right people, this statement is Absolutely true. It's so unfortunate and tragic the havoc that they wreak and the support that they falsely garner. Have a great day.

My favorite in the last days of my marriage was, "There, there, now you don't feel better about yourself! " It would shut my Ex down every time. Wouldn't recommend for someone that is dealing with a malignant narc or one that is already in a narcissistic rage.

Thank you, I have learned so much from you after years of nasty jibes & accusations. Its getting very close to being the Truth Teller but I know my truth will cut to the quick & do not want to be "that person".. A recent come back has been " Its a shame you feel a bit down/angry/depressed, hope things improve for you" Seems to work, its all gone quiet. Stay strong lovelies.

@annika17867 I admit that saying this come back line to them makes the narcissist short circuit . . . They lose it . . . It is like the ultimate blow. They just can't perceive that anyone could disrespect them like that. That shows how high and mighty they think they are. . . And it tells them that you will not be their door mat anymore and you simply did it by sending their own cruel words straight back at them. They expect that we just bow our heads and take their abuse and show them respect while they smash away at our identity as a person. When you say this come back line to them it paralyzes them . . . Makes them confused . . . And it restores your self respect.

I always became dismissive and it would drive them crazy. He would bring up things from many years ago from time to time involving a certain person. It was like he was trying to get me on his side but I’d respond with “who cares?” to shut it down. He would gaslight by asking questions he didn’t know the answer to not because he actually wanted to know but to try and make me feel dumb and doubt myself. Funny part was when I very much knew the answer. It didn’t matter he argued anyway when I told him to look in my book. Standing your ground and remaining calm really gets them up in a roar.

This one about "miscommunication" can be tricky...but THE GOAL is to divert/dodge THEIR "shots" RIGHT??🤔🤔🤔Ever seen Enemy of the State w/Will Smith & Gene Hackman? It is a VERY educational movie...it taught me to USE WHAT YOU HAVE BEEN ATTACKED WITH AGAINST that person(s) WHEN NECESSARY...some things I've said are 1) "that's A/ONE perspective." DISMISSING THEM...2) "You have the right to feel/think what you feel/ think." NOTTT owning it. 3) "Those 'WORDS' are COMING FROM YOUR BRAIN OUT OF YOUR MOUTH." (THAT DOES NOT MAKE IT TRUE/YOU ARE BEING HEARD 》you can say this or not)." 》This one you HAVE TO SAY IT WITH A COMPLETE "FACTUAL" (like reporting the news) CONFIDENT CALM-TONE...OR IT CAN BACKFIRE. 4) REPEAT WORD-BY-WORD WHAT THEY JUST SAID LIKE THIS, "WHAT I am HEARING YOU SAY IS...." W/a calm-tone...THIS IS WHERE THEY USUALLY "TAKE THE BAIT" BY FEELING "EMPOWERED", BUT YOU JUST TRAPPED THEM INNN THEIR OWN-WORDS BY NOTTT "OWNING" WHAT THEY SAID...PUSHING IT BACK ON THEM...THEY CAN BE A-BIT TAKEN-BACK FOR A SEC...THEN, YOU KNOWWWWW YOU HAVE THE CONTROL+POWER OF THE CONVO...🤔THEN, FOLLOWED BY COMPLETE 1000% SILENCE. ALLOW THEM TO "MARINATE" IN THAT "SPACE" THEY CREATED...THEN, they'll HAVE TO SAY SOMETHING...THEY CANNOT STAY QUIET...You can add "YOU ARE BEING HEARD." & LEAVE IT AT THAT. They possibly can just try to laugh or blow it off. 5) "SOUNDS LIKE A 'YOU-PROBLEM...YOU HAVE-A-PROBLEM...(you can add "NOT MY PROBLEM." If you want)." State it with CONFIDENCE. I've found that at LEAST 1 of the above STUMPS them. I've also found testing them all out to find what "works for you." Every person is different...especially narcs..."

Maybe try this. Just say No. My Narcissist goes nuts! I love making her go off. Funny they never learn, it's a hamster wheel they get on. Different words yet my one word remains, and she goes off like clockwork. I just don't care to bother saying anything else except No and filling police reports against them for DUI, Disturbing the Peace, etc. Building a case for a restraining order. I work or her elderly mother with dementia, not her. She shows up unexpectedly to harass. What she says, wow. Leaves me phone messages. So sad we have people in this world who cannot tolerate the word NO and continue to harass. Luckily I've already dealt with her kind in the form of my Mother whom I had no choice but to cut off (I miss her). Yet this one is an overt narcissist, grandiose, etc. Much easier. So glad there are nice, calm, educated people like you are here to help. God bless you
