Great video, thanks for sharing. I've had fun with the first example playing the hi hats with the usual rock feel, accenting the "on" beats. But, ofcourse, they change to "off" beats and back again because of the odd time signature. The challenge is to keep it going throughout and resist putting the on beat where one naturally would feel it playing in 4/4.

Now add some Bonham triplets with pauses in between so you end up straight after... well... Phil Collins did it in Supper's Ready. Known this song for 20 years and still don't grasp it. Which is why I love it abjectly.

Odd time signatures can seem intimidating, but you exaib it well. Also, as a drummer, time signatures are important, but if you can not figure it out and you can feel the grove, then go with it. I play with mostly feel. I may not know the time signature, but I can feel and hear where the grove is going and jam along with it.

Started playing drums 1,5 months ago, and the first 9/8 signature song i learned was, The Crunge - Led Zeppelin. Very cool groove, I recommend you try it :)

How can you whinge about 9/8 if you've heard Supper's Ready? Phil Collins demos every possible variation. It's a tour de force and inspiration at the same time (which is pretty much all of Phil Collins drumming with Genesis).

I've been trying to learn the balkans style of 5, 7, 9, 13, 17, 19 time signatures. Not there yet, it's complicated when you have a western idea of odd time signatures.

Happy birthday to you can be counted as 3-3-3 (although technically it's probably a 6/8 shuffle). In other words you should theoretically be able to sing it over the intro to Voices by Dream Theater, which is 9/8. Let me know how you get on 😉

I've been pounding away on the drums for several months now. Just when I really thought I figured out 4/4 time signature I found out there's a 6/8. Now you're telling me there's a 9/8??? Who in the hell are the people that come up with this crap lol 🥁😡

Love the vids. What kit do you play? Is it roland or efnote? Or a combination? Can't decide if I rate the efnotes. I've always played high-end acoustic kits, but looking at a roland td27kv2 for the flat. Just so hard to chooooose!! x

This groove makes me feel sick to listen to, its confusing my mind brain with it's simplistic off beat. No matter how much I talk to my right foot it refuses to be my friend on this topic. Car dès que le mouvement est compris c'est naturel juste l'incarner et le retranscrire aux mieux tout décomposer pour mieux voir les finneses merci beaucoup je me suis inscris cour enrichissant c bon j'ai capté sur mon papier ma tete hello thank you for your tutorial and the time it took to demystify us.come you say on WT paper what the ball is!! That's what annoys me, his academic school, they can't just talk about music.... Because as soon as the movement is understood, it's natural, just embody it and transcribe it as best as possible, break everything down to better see the endings, thank you very much, I signed up, enriching court, good I captured on my paper my head
