The shot where Matthew McConaughey looks at the camera and says "who would like to say grace" was so good. It was so chilling you felt like he was actually talking directly to you. Oscar-worthy performance also.

This film delivers. By no means is this film for everyone, but my God, this is really what cinematic art is all about. It's wildly underrated and an unorthodox hit and should be treated as such. Top-Notch performances by all 5. It really goes to show how far selfish people will go to get what they want, even if it means helping someone kill their own son. Before I watched this film I expected it to be one of those NC-17ers where there are naked women (not that I would object to it in any way) in every frame and graphic bloody violence for the sake of graphic bloody violence. Hell I was wrong, it really is a bone-chilling film with an odd play-adaptation plot and Matthew McConaughey kills it as Killer Joe- pun intended. 2 Thumbs Up and 3/4 Stars! Friedkin hasn't lost his touch. Killer Joe is what the edge of your seat was made for.

McConaughey gave a career best performance here. He deserved at least a Supporting Actor Oscar nomination, but the Academy once again proved it doesn't have the balls to step outside of its bubble and honor those who truly deserve it, but rather they honor those PC films with the best PR and marketing

Ya know...when I saw this in the beginning, I didn't know what to expect. I was thinking this would be something as easy as The Lincoln Lawyer or something... The first sign was his weird thing with Dottie.... I lost it after the chicken moment... Freaked me TF OUT. I was disturbed for real. Mcconaughey isn't charming or likeable in this at all. His acting his great--the whole cast is AWESOME--and the plot is perfect too. The ending--the world isn't really used to ambiguous endings. I thought it was perfect and thought-provoking. This movie is extremely dark, I've never seen anything like it lol. Its like something out of a psycho-horror movie. Mcconaughey is nearly as crazy as the killer in True Detective, sheesh. After watching this I thought "WHAT DID I JUST WATCH?!?" But its a good one...for those who like the deep, dark stories and strong acting.

You can be accompanied by an adult and go watch a rated R movie. In an NC-17 there is no exceptions, you have to be 18. And most theaters don't show NC-17 films because they don't sell out. So its difficult to go see them theatrically unless you live in a big city or have a art house theater near you.

I managed to see this in NYC and it's fantastic. What makes this NC-17 as opposed to R isn't so much the nudity; there's female full frontal and scenes in strip clubs, but there are two scenes in particular that are so disturbing because of the acting (McConaughey in particular). Without spoiling anything, these scenes will make your flesh crawl without a single shot of nudity, almost like Blue Valentine.

I heard that the Gangster Squad changed it's release date because the studios want to edit the film and re-shoot some scenes. I don't think it was because of the massacre in Colorado. The last Nc-17 movie that was controversial was Showgirls in 95, it took years before and then they finally released Blue Valentine and Shame.

I don't think Dottie killed Joe, the reason being that she killed her brother and then her father first. I think that symbolized that she was upset that they gave her virginity away to some man to kill their mother. she killed her brother first bc he professed to love her but in essence, sold her like cattle. her father was hesitant and that is why he died second and the death took longer. as for the last part when her finger was on the trigger, I think she was going to finish her father off. Joe is the only one in the movie to see Dottie as a person and to treat her as such. but that's my two cents ✌
@shadowman2192
@shadowman2192 8 жыл бұрын
gina x I think she shot Chris more out of mercy. Joe was beating him to death so Chris was gonna die anyway. She then shot her dad just because he was such a low life and was helping Joe kill Chris. At the end I believe Dottie was gonna kill Joe. Because she was sick of being used by everyone for their own greed. Joe used her as a sex object bordering on pedophilia since he was old enough to be her father. And if I remember right, she was still a minor. And her brother and father just handed her over to this psycho as a "retainer" to ensure Joe would kill their mother. I think she just got fed up with being used as a pawn in everyone's scheme so she finally stood up for herself. That's what I took from the ending.
