Look… I grew up in the early 2000s. I essentially had a Blue Ultra Monster glued in my hand at all times. And to be honest… I have no clue where energy drinks even came from. So what is the story? Who invented them? And why are we so obsessed with caffeine? Well friends… I found some answers.

I used to work at a convenience store and when kids would come in and try to purchase energy drinks I wouldn't sell it to them...almost lost my job over it but I stood my ground on the fact that I was not comfortable selling such products to children

I used to be 3 a day. I started doing one then adding flavored club soda to the second so I'd slowly get used to less caffeine and less flavor. Now I have one a year. I still drink coffee daily though. 🙃

I'm 28 and have been drinking 1-2 a day since I was 16 or so. I can't drink them anymore without expecting a kidney infection. Idk what it is about those drinks but I was hospitalized with kidney infections near sepsis 3 times in the last 18 months.

The way my heart stopped when you said Anais Fournier, I was online friends with her when I was also about 13-14, being 26 now this hit differently. She was absolutely so funny and had such a wild personality, her nickname was Larry for us it was a little inside joke. A friend of mine had 2 four lokos before prom. She tried to use a foam pole as a stripper pole, flung it across the room gym, threw her shoes at the vice principal, and then ran/stumbled away barefoot into the woods. This happened to one of my sons best friends. He went into cardiac arrest at the movies and was in the ICU a couple days. It was really scary. He's ok now thankfully

I had a young mother as a patient in the ICU who had drank 4 Monsters during her 3rd shift job at a gas station. She had a seizure and got severe brain damage when she stopped breathing. No one came into the gas station for 10 minutes. She was in a coma and had to be on life support. She was eventually taken off life support and passed away. She was just doing what she thought she had to to work several jobs for her children. I'll never forget her.

That's so sad, I used to work in a gas station too but never had more than one, maaaaybe two per shift, but with multiple little ones she was probably running on fumes constantly, its awful that we're in a day and age where you have to put your health at risk just to provide for your family.

Remember SURGE?! It was Expressly marketed to kids and teens! When I lived in Las Vegas, the SURGE Street Team came to our high school in a giant food truck and started handing out cans to the kids, along with lime green and red merch from pins to hats, tees, pens, squeeze toys! They make single serve powder drink mix you put in the bottle of water, that have "energy" in them. I didn't realize it had those "energy" ingredients in it and I got them for my boy (15). I just got some flavors he liked. It took us a few days to figure it out but boy was like wth? why am I jittery? Well because we got energy drinks and didn't realize! He usually only has an energy drink once in a blue moon so he noticed quick. Check your labels!!!

46:25 When I worked as an emergency call operator, I had to instruct cadets at an annual camp how to resuscitate their friend who'd downed approximately 12+ cans of Redbull in less than an hour. Heart attack at circa 14 years old. I remember the panicked shrieks of the Army cadets. One even saying "I can't remember my first aid. I can't remember." My heart hurt for them, because they all had basic first aid training, but seeing their friend on the floor panicked them.

That's very sad. Extreme stress is known as having dissociative effects. Those poor kids, but 12 in an hour? I once had to be rushed to the er after drinking one Red Bull with a Mountain Dew. These things are no joke.

I went in the cardiac arrest in 2016 died 3 times, was in a coma for a week and woke up with no memory till the last 2 days in the cardiac rehab unit. Now I have a fun internal defibrillator just in case it ever happens again. Only thing the doctors could say was the cause was drinking 2-3 regular size monsters a day. 😬 mom of 2, working ft and having lots of animals that I was taking care of. Be careful! I like to tell ppl to have their heart checked out at least every 5 years to make sure there is no underlying issues.

Hey Bailey, when I was 18 at a Halloween Party, I drank too many Rockstar Vodkas and had to be brought to the hospital in an ambulance. The best part was that I was dressed as Flo from Progressive Insurance, but since it was Halloween I was covered in fake blood and fake bruises. So anyways there I was looking absolutely suspish in my hospital bed, but I was just hella passed out from Rockstar Vodkas. I was told by a police officer that you can get a DUI if you drink energy drinks back to back and drive. The large amount of stimulant in it can cause a similar effect to being intoxicated.

I mean any reckless driving if you fail a field sobriety test would cause you to get a DWI/DUI. You could try to get a breathalyzer or blood test to disprove it but that would be difficult.

I tasted a Red Bull once, YUK! The smell of taurine was an instant turn-off and it gave me heart palpitations right away. My nephew tried Jagerbombs for his 21st bday. We were on the fence in the morning about taking him to the E.R. Got my hub to stop drinking energy drinks. He's borderline diabetic, too old for that garbage, and juiced for him at home instead. No chemicals, just food. Heartburn stopped and much more. They're absolute garbage.

i drink no more than one energy drink a day. if you have a heart condition then energy drinks wont be great for you but otherwise they are fine.

I live on coffee and energy drinks. Not just because I work nights, but also because I have unmedicated ADHD. In high school, I remember drinking Hansens energy drink on the way to school. It was the only thing that made me functional!

It was harder to identify Pringles as a potato chip or not, and if music was responsible for certain behaviors (Hi Tipper Gore) in hearings w/Dee Snyder and John Denver just to end up putting an advisory warning on certain types of music. But energy drinks, nah. Drink-up kids. Ain't nothing wrong with spun-off kids in school, exhausted w/short tempers.
