Killer Mike is right about private schools. I went to an elite majority white private HS. I saw how some of the black kids who spent all their lives in that environment got chewed up and spat out. They craved a connection to their blackness bc it wasn't being nurtured in that environment.
@GaryWilliamsJr
@GaryWilliamsJr 5 жыл бұрын
@Fintan I am not saying it isn't a struggle for poor white kids. However, it is a different struggle. And oftentimes poor white kids are more likely to be allowed to assimilate in than Black kids. Does not mean they don't struggle. They do and I have seen it. Just the dimensions of it are different.
@impresarioe6824
@impresarioe6824 5 жыл бұрын
I had the opposite relationship to other black kids in a majority black high school. I was tortured and ostracized by black students way more than the white students. I begged my mother to send me back to a majority white private school. Words I could handled; the violence I couldn't! Now, It just may be my experience though. Ultimately, check every school and choose the best for your child.

My mother married a man that has an uncle that bought a large piece of land in South Carolina and built 5 houses originally on it for his children . Over the years he built more for family members , and after his death , more homes were built by other family . This man inspired me , because this land now resembles a black town ...all black ! It's my dream to do the same but on a larger scale , with libraries and schools , and black police stations ,and restaurants etc...

Mike out here dropping facts. We need to invest in our public schools. Our tax dollars paid for these schools. We should demand better! Also education starts at home not at school. We should be teaching out children skills that when they go to school they can get better educated. Go to the schools. Support PTA. Go to school events and programs.

I agree with Killer Mike, saying wait until your child is of a certain age and is a bit more sure of themselves before sending them into a environment that will not be nurturing to them, it is done by many races and other black cultures that are not African American. I've worked with a large majority of immigrants especially from the Caribbean and parts of Africa and a good portion of them send their children either to their homeland to go to school and return here for Summer and Christmas breaks, until they are about 16 yrs old some of them, their designated culture Saturday school or after school programs, also Montessori schools. It sometimes makes the more prepared to handle some of the B.S. even some of the Indians and Middle Easterners that I've dealt with do it. He's not lying about Rev. Ike. I've been watching his old sermons for a couple of months now and it is truly one of my better decisions. Try the water in the glass by the bed.

@@i_am_esol i just hate how he generalized it. I also took offense to him calling people "chumps" simply for wanting better. Failing to the point that a state takeover is being discussed.

Killa mike clarified that at the age of 13, if you did your job as a parent and instilled pride in your child, when you do send them to an all white private school, your child will be able to handle and defend themselves against the racism that they will encounter. He states that by sending them to private school(hostile environment) earlier than 13, you will be sending an emotionally fragile being to the wolves in the name of progress only for them to leave as broken, self hating black people.

Nowthis brother on V-103 just like brother Envy fail to listen which is a skill by the way and requires comprehension and then communication which is the feedback from an authentic original message before communication can actually take place. My only negative about this conversation is the inference that people who choose not to solely depend on the black community for their education, finance, food, or whatever, are less than...or perhaps, misguided. While his journey is a beautiful testament to the fortitude of the black community. There are still some of us who have had largely positive experiences outside of that. I grew up in a mostly white neighborhood, went to a private school that was mostly white, to a mostly black high school, and I didn't go to a HBCU. Also, I was raised in huge family of black people who guided my confidence in private so it could shine in public! I've had an array of different people have a positive impact on my life of every background. It's why today, I reinvest my time/energy/money into businesses, projects, and people that I believe in.

I think the discussion should be re-framed as excellent/good public schools versus poor/failing public schools. Whether Big Mike would acknowledge it or not, the majority (not all) of public urban schools serving black students are inadequate and even failing acaccording to: funding levels, access to rigorous curriculum, graduation rates, suspension rates, parental involvement. If you look at national data for districts like Baltimore, Chicago, DC, Atlanta etc. these data are not hard to find. For the 3 to 5 public schools that he mentioned worked for him there are literally thousands of public school that serve Black children that are failing. He is generalizing bases on a very small sample size. Also, every city in the country does not have the same demographics as Atlanta. Less than 3% of all public schools teachers are black. This means that, in most schools, Black children will be.educated by primarily White teachers. As a result, the same racism and implicit bias that white teachers in private schoilstu have still exists in public schools among many white teachers there as well. Again, Mike is paint everything with a broad brush based on anecdotal data. Its really comparing apples to oranges. I would love to hear Mike talk more about improving urban education as a whole. Telling parents to go to the 3 or 5 schools that are exemplary is not a viable solution for the majority of black families in the United States.

All of the problems you provided has solution. Even he said that people need to get involved in the public schools in their area. We can put people on the school board who can find more funding, improve the curriculum. People can mentor student which would help with the graduation and suspension rates. We can't depend on the government to do everything.

He hit the point on Public Education. When I grew up in Detroit and went to a majority black school named MLK Jr. It did instill pride and was a top school in Detroit. The teacher's I had mostly black was about us doing better. And the white ones you knew where cool and connected to black people because they chose to be in an environment around black children instead of wealthier suburbs."Its easier to build strong children, than to repair broken men" Fredrick Douglas

I agree with Killer Mike on public schools. Public schools are good. It is the parents of black kids that are failing their kids. As Killer Mike said, parents need to tell their children they need to become something. When parents are involved, kids do well. Parents need to know what the kids are working on. They need to know if their kids are doing homework.

In the south we know how to survive because we’re close knit....city folks rely on the government too or either stuck in this box “they gotta do for me”

Damn I love listening to the dude man. He’s our voice now it’s our mission as a body of like minded individuals to continue and start practicing the word of this black man in order to help our people which will ultimately help and heal the world. Hopefully we can break from traditional ways of thinking and start think outside the box to get shit done. Power to the people
