I felt so proud when I saw you were covering the Chicano movement. My mom has ALWAYS told me about the time that she marched with Cesar Chavez in (Turlock) California. I mentioned to her that I was watching your video mentioning him and she told me the story AGAIN. lol Thank you for this. I've always said my mom could write a book with all the things she's been through in her life. When my tio Pepe and her were little, they got lost and ended up in a convent for 3 years before being found / reunited with their family. She came to the U.S. when she was 9 years old and told me many horrible stories about how she would get pinched or hit by teachers just for speaking Spanish. Ironically, her name is Dolores as well.

YES I still too remember those days, and I am willing to bet that is if I were a gambling person. That those days are long gone and will not return, that is for the most part because you still have a few of the older people/generation left who know about those times and what it meant just to be able to help someone your neighbor, friend and the homeless guy on the street corner.

Our native people need to reclaim our continent back and push out the white colonizers who don't belong here. Enough IS ENOUGH! Play time it over with and I'm glad white people in America are becoming less and less. Low birthrates and high overdose fentynal death rates are helping us too but not fast enough sis. We need to stand as one ALL of us POC to push them out and make America TRULY great and native again. That is equal opportunity.

My great grandfather narrowly escaped being deported in the 1930’s. He was a bakery worker that received word from coworkers that a raid was inbound. He closed his shop and bolted down towards his home where my grandmother and her siblings were. He almost got caught by officers but he outran them. This terrible trauma trickled down into a tumultuous relationship with Chicano identity- becuase of this, they distanced themselves from being seen as such for the sake of their protection. It’s been a journey to heal myself from the generational trauma it caused. Thank you for posting this.

My uncle was deported in the 90's even though he was legal. He said they dropped him off right past the border with no food or water. As he walked, the road was lined with d**d bodies from other deported people who succumbed to the heat, thirst, and hunger. The treatment of the people who keep the country running is insane.

She came across multiple farms where the worker were literally CHAINED TO THE WALLS at night. Eventually Chavez came to help organize them. Also, the grape boycott didn't end in the 70's. The UFW still wasn't happy with the contract. I actually REMEMBER eating my first grape, and I was born in 1985.

For a few years I’ve been watching you. A great addition to a busy week. Always great topics. Always intriguing. Definitely relevant to today. It’s wild how not much has changed over long periods of time and the cycle is beyond ridiculous. Which is exactly why history is so important. I’m so happy that you do Dark History because everyone does deserve to know the truth. The MMM is also super important. It gives us an in depth understanding of how and why some tragic and heartbreaking events happen and how we need to be more “see something say something.” Also, best make up looks ever. I have learned so much about makeup techniques just from watching MMM. So thank you for your hardwork and dedication to your channel. I was five when my family moved to Michigan. I had grown up in California and Oregon. It was,the mid seventies, and I was so surprised to see grapes, as we had been boycotting growers all my life. My family still continued the boycott, until the late eighties. My dad insisted that it was a big deal, and that we didn’t cross a boycott, nor a picket line. I’ve always been so grateful for the hard work of the laborers, and still look up where stores source their food from. It’s a lot less work o research these days, what with the internet. Workers still are experiencing horrible conditions.

Growing up, my uncle sammy was a civil rights activist here in texas (they even have him in our parades) and when i would tell my grandma I couldn't do something she would stop me immediately and say "Si, se puede" ❤❤❤❤ thanks for spotlighting the chicano movement!! Love ya!

Thank you for this video, my paternal grandmother actually picked fruit and produce. She did the best she could for her family and her struggles propelled my life. She picked fruit but I have a desk with my name on it. 👏🏽

Exactly, very unChristian like, and I say that as a Christian. I can't understand how people cal themselves "Christains" and treat those around them so horrifically. The worst part; It happens everyday. Love you Bailey ! Hope you are doing well. Hugs !

Back in the day when I was young and before my legs gave out, I used to work with Cesar Chavez until we had a falling out. While I still supported his noble cause I dropped him. Sad but true.

My city has 2 of it's schools that form a middle/highschool academy named the Chavez/Huerta prep academy. I'm glad I know the backstory of 2 people who did so much for the Chicanos in America

I've been asking why the county of Alameda hasn't followed the courts and schools in observing Cesar Chavez Day/ birthday. The county just recently agreed on a contract and Cesar Chavez is still not included. I hope it will be one day. It should be.

Thank you Bailey for doing an episode on the chicano movement… My parents both marched with Cesar Chavez to Washington DC, boycott grapes march. There is so much dark history that gets muffled in our history books and books banned because more kids are asking questions of how the US continues to repeat history in now their generation. Very sad BUT the more informed the better the battle to win against injustices!! Adelante Mujer Hispana💪🏼 Viva La Causa✊🏽

I had a really had time understanding this one. I feel like you've been doing something different with the sound for 2 or 3 weeks now, it's just off and making some vowels garbled. Can we go back to what it was like a month ago? I love your content, and you are gorgeous as always. Thank you so much for your time!

Much respect for Bailey calling out wyppl racist history. I am Indígena and Latina, my abuelo was taken from his Peruvian parents as a baby. He was raised white. I appreciate you covering residential schools and this video. We must teach our kids real history. It still repeats today but lets hope things like this educate wyppl to do better. Love u bailey. PLEASE COVER MORE MMIW cases 🙏 ❤

Hi Bailey! Long time listener, first time caller. I really enjoyed this episode of dark history. I grew up and live in Yuma, AZ. Growing up here we never learned about Cesar Chavez and the Chicano movement. It’s a huge agricultural town and most of my friends were from migrant families that traveled back and forth with the “corrida” for work. It makes me sad that all of this was happening here and we were never taught about it. I didn’t learn about it until I was in collage and now as an adult I am barely understanding the impact they made for so many migrant workers. Thank you for sharing this story to all of your viewers and shedding a light on a dark side of Chicano history. We love you!

It’s true about the beatings for speaking Spanish. My father was American but the family spoke Spanish at home. He and his siblings were beaten for speaking Spanish. He did speak perfect English and as my siblings and I grew up, we never were taught Spanish. 😢 I took it in high school and college but my espanol is muy mal.
