Im so lucky, where I live we had torrential rain from about 8pm till 3am then it stopped and hasn't rained since also we had absolutely no wind. I'm very grateful for that but also a bit annoyed, they said we would be getting between 7.5 and 10cm of rain and 60mph winds and I was terrified because theres no drainage system on earth that could cope with that amount of rain. Last night was unnecessarily stressful in my household. And now the sun's come out, totally bonkers.

I'm glad you're okay. To be fair they didn't forecast it to be that bad everywhere and it's very difficult to pin down exactly where will be worst hit. This is a very unusual weather pattern. Normally storms pass over us from west to east, but this one has come up from the south east and is being blocked by a high over Scandinavia. This is why it's affected eastern Scotland worst and is hanging around for a few days, rather than a few hours. I hope the worst is over, but it is forecast to strengthen: hopefully it's wrong.

England is not ready for the rainy weather every year, the water wells are clogged, the gutters... there is no proper drainage of water from the streets and the doors of many houses are so low that water flows in when there is little rain... this is unacceptable. The water drainage system should be the best in Europe because it is an island where it rains often!
