I get the whole not comparing apples to apples arguments here. I have worked in a studio for many years and have helped people in many situations. Basically three kinds of people out there. The person who knows exactly what they want, the person who thinks they know what they want and a person who is open to suggestions. In all three cases, all of them almost always have some kind of bias toward a specific manufacturer. In almost every case, I convince something else is better. Doesn't matter what which one they like, I always show them how their bias works. In the end, its really simple. With the right knowledge and skills, most keyboards can sound amazing. If you truly want the best sounds, work on your skills and knowledge of how the process works.

Number 1: Yamaha, natural and relaxing sound. The others have coloured or too dynamic sound which tire the ears with time.

Many experienced people have given their preferences and opinions here. Thanks to them all as I can't play any music instrument except harmonica... a little bit and these comments are very informative to me as I am going to buy my first synthesizer. To me as a person who doesn't know anything but loves to hear music, specially piano and synths. A good music comforts me... relaxes my mind. Feels like it is flowing through my veins to my heart. From that perspective, the sound of Korg SV-1 feels very good. It didn't hurt my ears. Next I would place Nord and then Yamaha Kronos. For other 3 brands, I had to loose my earphones because they are very loud which were hurting my ears. I don't know whether that would be normal or not, but I have stated what I felt, that's all. And personally I think this is the best non-biased video, which will help people like me to understand how to differentiate between keyboards when buying the first one. Thanks @killerddt.

One suggestion: For a real and honest comparison you have to play THE SAME on the differents pianos, because emotions, cadence, etc. all of this influence on the way that we perceive the sound and music

It's about the ear preference. These are flagship stage pianos the time this video was created. I am a Roland guy..but for me..the winner here is Yamaha Montage.the sound is so balance from low mid and high.and Nord is next which has the best reverb among all..the rest are equal.🎹🙂🎶

1. The Montage is the phattest and warmest. 2. The Kord SV is very clean in all range but just a little too bright 3. The nord is very close to the kord SV but lacks the ambient like the others 4. The Kurweil lacks in every aspect 5. The famtom G is very thin and lacks the realistic piano feel that every manufacturer is trying so hard to get 6. The Kronos is very similar to the Fantom G very week but has a better ambient and crisp on the top I choose the Montage as the best and the Korg SV 2 second. The nord is clearly in third, kurzweil 4th, Kronos 5th and Fantom G 6th.

does the Montage have acoustic piano keyboard action? Kronos has RH3 keybed... do you like it? Some say it is a bit heavy keys... did you try the Roland PHA-4 keys? I think if we don't go for the RH3, then probably PHA-4 is near the best (for piano less than $1000 or $1500). In this test I still like the Yamaha sound the best. Nord Stage 2 is not bad in this test. Korg Kronos X is also quite nice, but I hear it again and Korg sound seems to have a little bit something trapping the sound.

RH3 keys I think it's a little lighter , not heavier. Roland PHA4 should be very good for practicing.

I liked the Kronos first, then Yamaha and Nord but....is very funny because I continue liking the piano on the VE-RD1 board of the Roland A90EX!

Im still using a korg triton and a yamaha p90 from like 2001 LOL! As it happens tho very soon im looking to spend a few grand on two new machines. Im looking at the cp4 and kurzweill artis which i can get for under 2000. Is this much improved from my current setup? Or do i need to go yamaha cp88 + forte haha?

They all sound fantastic. Pretty much you would have to be really biased to say one of them really blows the other ones out of the water, but the Yamaha sounds pretty amazing in terms of the expressiveness. The Korg sounds flatter, but also very expressive and dynamic. The Kurzweil sounds really punchy but less expressive than the Yamaha or Korg. The Nord sounds good all around, but doesn't stand out above the rest in any area. The Roland sounds thinner than the rest and moderately expressive.

I'm considering a portable piano, and the last two samples are IMO the best sounding. I already have a wonderful Roland, but it's a console style, and the second one I'd be getting for my work. Hoping there is one out there with the best quality of sound, polyphony number, and won't break my back for transport.

Initially i was thinking for Yamaha -125 all the way but since budget is a bit high for me right now, i was thinking for Kurzweil KA 90. But still i'm so much onto Yamaha. Any suggestions for me? would it be worthy to buy Kurzweil as i really have to consider my budget. #Needsuggestions

Piano 1 has got to be Yamaha S90ES as it sounds great to my ears. Piano 2 sounds like Kurzweil which is overly affected with reverb. Piano 3 sounds like Nord... very nice... my second favorite. Piano 4, I say is Korg and not so good and very short sample. Piano 5, I say, Roland and I like it... my 3rd choice. Piano 6 is also very nice...tied for 3rd choice and I think it's Nord again. I''m writing this before seeing the answers. Now seeing the answers and yikes... Roland Fantom for Piano 3 ?? Wow, I would have never guessed that and the Kronos for Piano 5? Never would have guessed that either lol. Nord has nice piano sounds so not surprised I liked it but the biggest shock is still the Fantom G8... I always thought it was awful. But no surprise, I picked Yamaha as number one and although that is the Montage, Yamaha knows many of us felt the S90ES had one of their best ever piano samples and my guess is that they have migrated it forward into the Montage. I hope you don't mind that I have given all my opinions here. Thanks for posting this as it was fun to try to guess what was what.

What is the purpose of this comparison? Comparing old technology up against new? The Roland fantom G8 is 10 year old technology, or close to that, and the yamaha Montage is the current flagship keyboard of yamaha. What's the point here? Its like comparing a 10 year old BMW against a brand new Mercedes. 😩😩😩😩😩

The point is for people to see which one sounds the best to them personally. Not all of us assume something is best just because it's the newest thing on the market. I personally love the Montage. Perhaps, I'd get it if I had that kind of money laying around.
