The "Bismarck" , and his sister ship "Tirpitz", were the 2 largest battleships ever built in Europe and they were the pride of the kriegsmarine (Germany's militari navy) during Ww2. The "Bismarck" set sail in May 1941 to reach the Atlantic and destroy merchant convoys, but she was intercepted by the British and during a brief fight, destroyed the former flagship of the British fleet and pride of the Royal Navy, the worldwide famous battlecruiser "Hood", by penetrating her armor and detonating her aft main ammunition magazine and killing all 1900 members of her crew except for 3 men, and heavily damaged the battleship "Prince of Wales". This enraged the prime minister Winston Churcil who ordered all his ships in the Atlantic to abandon their operations and destroy the Bismarck. In total more than 40 ships participated to the hunt, making it the biggest naval hunt in history. Meanwhile Bismarck, who had received a hit during the first battle, was leaking fuel and was trying to reach the French port of Saint Nazaire, in occupied France, for repair. After 6 days of playing cat and mouse with the British, Bismarck was attacked by airplanes launched from the aircraft carrier "Ark Royal" and hit by a torpedo in the stern, which jammed his rudders during evasive manuvers, meaning that he was forced to sail in circles, just a few miles away from reaching air cover. In the end battleships "King George V" and "Rodney", along side the heavy cruisers "Norfolk" and "Dorsedshire" fought the already doomed battleship and, during the following 90 minutes completely destroyed it. However, despite having all her guns destroyed, and having received more than 400 hits (out of the 2800 shells that the British had fired at her) her armor was still mostly intact and the ship was still afloat. So the british launched another 4 torpedoes and she disappeared beneath the waves. After inspection of the wreck however it had been discovered that the torpedoes did no significant damage thanks to the battleship's excellent armor, and that Bismarck had been scuttled by her crew (although it should be noted that many historians believe that it would have eventually sunk due to the damage received). Of the 2200 men that served on her, only 114 survived. The old man seen in the video is the son of the last survivor, who died in 2018, 1 year before this song was released
@Belnick66662 жыл бұрын
yepp, the crew never lied, they said they sunk it themselves and the allies claimed they sunk it, but yea all torpedo walls were intact and only 2 shells had penetrated the ship, way way way above the waterline, where armor were weakest

Welcome to the rabbithole of Sabaton. Not only are their videos really something else AND teach you a lot about history, but they also like to hide easter-eggs in them. Which is why it is a good idea to keep paying attention to the very end. Not only due to dedications such as in this video here, but also things that add entire layers to a given song (such as at the end of Christmas Truce for example). Another easter-egg hidden in this video can be seen at 3:44 of your reaction-video: Primo Victoria - which is the title of their first album all the way back in 2005.

You've discovered Sabaton, now you need to check out Tommy Johansson, who is the lead guitarist. His voice is absolutely incredible, though he only does backing vocals in Sabaton. He also fronts his own band Majestica, but also does some mind blowing solo work. His most popular cover at the moment is She's Gone, but he does everything from Disney to ABBA to Queen to even Sabaton. He's known for his strong metal belting voice, but also for his almost 4 octave range and his vibrato.
@merryrose678810 ай бұрын
Chris Rörland and Tommy have been the two guitarists. I think no one is labeled as lead guitar on any of their albums. In the Hellfest 2019 video, Joakim lost his voice. So Tommy and Chris took turns singing the songs. I'm sure you would enjoy this performance. And yes, you are right to tell the reactor to check out Tommy and all the work he does when he's not playing with Sabaton. BTW, I went onto Wikipedia to double-check that there are no "lead" guitarists. Even though Tommy will play on this North American tour, Wikipedia already has Tommy listed as a former member of Sabaton. I know we are all fine and wish Tommy the best:) But the Wikipedia listing without Tommy still was a bit of a reality setting in.

Go check out Christmas Truce next. Trust me, it is worth it. And so you know, since this is a worry for all reactors Nuclear Blast, who produces for Sabaton, has a policy of supporting reaction channels. As long as you are reacting to one of the official vids from the Sabaton, Sabaton History or Yarnhub channels you will not get strikes. The lyric videos are nice, but trust me you want to see the originals. Of their 10 albums, soon to be 11, only the first one is not focused on actual history. As they say, with as many incredible events and people in reality, why make up a story. The true ones are better anyway. Welcome to the Sabaton Army.
