This is a REALLY good and important video for investors to watch. I’ve MADE ALL OF THESE mistakes. And I would be willing to bet EVERY experienced investor has done the same. The thing to learn is you can avoid these mistakes by being conscious of them, secondly you need to ask yourself with each transaction whether you are committing these “investing sins”. If you go through the checklist every time you act you will avoid silly and costly “unforced errors”. Smart investing is a process.

1. Buying on the dips is a sound strategy if you're buying the index regularly anyway and always keep a bit of spare cash in case of a 10-20% correction. The 1940s, 1973-1990, 2002-3, 2008-9 June/July 2016 and December 2018 were all great times to buy UK equity. But don't just look at the price, look at what actually happens to the valuation fundamentals. 2. Buy and hold forever, but rebalance, diversify and reallocate towards bonds over time 3. ... can't say more, when others are greedy be fearful and avoid hype 4. when others are fearful, be greedy 5. yep, stay in your circle of competence

I wanted to thank you for sharing such great wisdom! Btw. you demonstrate that even mistakes can be turned into something valuable and can be a blessing in disguise. (Since you now can create such valuable content based on them)

This is a very useful video. I recognise my own investing errors here too. I had to laugh though at the honesty, but I wouldn't recommend using this approach at an interview for a finance job.

Thanks for this, always fun to hear other people's screw ups other than my own. I've been out of the equity market for a while and want to get back in... but right now everything is insanely high, but everyone is making so much money... I'm so jealous haha. I can wait though...

@Killik. Can you explain how billionaires buy shares in bulk. Is it possible to have such such buy or sell open orders?
@KillikFinanceVideos2 жыл бұрын
Good question - big topic! In short, very large orders need to be managed carefully so as not to disrupt the market or give away the fact someone intends to dump a lot of stock. The market allows for "block" trades where a large order might be broken down by a dealer into smaller parts for execution purposes. On an automated order book, an "iceberg" order achieves a similar result - a small part of a larger (hidden) order is shown to the rest of the market to test willingness to transact. Hope that helps. Tim

Anyone who claims that they don't make mistakes is either not telling the truth, or the luckiest person on the planet. I tend to think the former :)
